Thank you White Lily and Haynes K**b FD for a fun filled afternoon, it was a hot one, but the Pulaski County Detention Center had lots of sweet treats to hand out! We hope everyone enjoyed the ice cream!
SPEDA has received $5,000 in special project funding from Operation UNITE that it donated Monday to the Pulaski County Detention Center to enhance its growing inmate re-entry program.
The funding, which UNITE gives to community coalitions twice annually through an application process, will be used to purchase presentation technology equipment for the jail’s new workforce and re-entry center.

Since inception in 2019, the Pulaski County Detention Center Inmate Work Program has offered selected inmates the opportunity to engage in various service projects throughout our community, including road clean up cemetery maintenance, county garage upkeep, park maintenance, assistance at the county animal shelter, and preparation in trash crews for the Soild Waste Board, as well as work crews to other city, county and state agencies.
We take pride in our inmate work program, believing in the potential for positive change and rehabilitation. We feel this provides the inmates meaningful work, and aim to instill a sense of purpose, responsibility, and valuable skills that extend far beyond their time at our facility.
It is imperative for our community to understand the expectation we uphold within our inmate work program. While rehabilitation is a priority, safety and security remain paramount. Participation in the program is contingent upon inmates’ adherence to rules and regulations, as well as their commitment to personal growth and positive behavior.
As the word spreads about our initiatives and the invaluable benefits to the community free of charge, we’ve experienced a significant uptick in service request. Managing this program requires us to carefully balance various resources, including inmate selection, time allocation, weather conditions, and above all maintaining security. Unforseen circumstances may occasionally disrupt our ability to adhere to our regular service schedule. With the increasing demand for our services, we must acknowledge our capabilities and limitations. This may result in the occasional need to reschedule service requests and possibly decline service requests, as we strive to utilize our resource responsibly.
We ask for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate our inmate work program. Thank you to those we have served l, to those we continue to serve, and those we may serve in the future. We deeply appreciate your support.
Thanks,
Jailer McCollum

The Pulaski County Detention Center's inmate re-entry program has been giving the gift of second chances since its inception in 2019, and has become a model for re-entry across the Commonwealth.

Please say a prayer for our EMS family!
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as one of our ambulances has been involved in a major accident in Garrard County. We will not be releasing any details at this time.
Highway 70 has been a big topic on Facebook the last couple days with the older gentleman using a sickle to cut down the weeds himself to be able to see clearly. Our inmates mowed out Hwy 70 today and Old Cuba Rd as well so the safety concern has been addressed. Thank you sir for taking the initiative to keep our roads safe, we are glad to help out whenever it’s possible!
Today we celebrated with the one and only Robbie Cox as he retired after serving 30 years at the Pulaski County Detention Center! Through the years Robbie was dedicated to being the best and learning as much as possible. By working hard and proving himself dependable and trustworthy, he worked his way up the ranks to sergeant and then onto Lieutenant before he decided to take his first leave as a new administration came into office. When Anthony McCollum took office in 2018 he returned to PCDC and was placed as Road Crew Supervisor and he held that position until he recently decided to call it quits to spend quality time with his family. We are thankful for your service Robbie and you will forever be a part of our PCDC family!

PCDC Summer Camp 2023 has come to an end! We started Monday off with a quick change of plans due to weather, but still enjoyed learning at the Louisville Slugger Museum. Even if you aren’t a baseball fan, the factory is such a cool tour!
Tuesday we traveled around Pulaski County, visiting different business and learning about job and educational opportunities. We started at SPEDA, traveled to TTAI, ate lunch at Chick fil-A and learned about its history, headed to Don Franklin Kia where they filled our kiddos up with goodie bags, visited Cumberland Valley National Bank and learned about the difference in checking and savings accounts and the importance of saving money, and ended the day at 106.1 radio station!
Wednesday we drove to Bowling Green to visit the Corvette Museum and Chaney’s Dairy Farm. After the tour of the farm, we had the best homemade ice cream made at Chaney’s!
As usual, Thursday consisted of Levi Jackson State Park’s Tree Top Adventure Rope Course. The campers (and some staff) got to zip line and complete difficult courses while being harnessed in the air!
Today, we invited some local First Responders to the jail - SRT, Hazmat, K911, Somerset Police Department, in training and trained dogs, EMS, and White Lily Fire Department - to learn more about their specific jobs and how our law enforcement all work together to ensure our safety as a community. The campers also got to take a tour of our jail, and picked their own City Slicker Dawgs! The second half of the day consisted of team building games and a water ballon fight.
It’s been a busy and tiring, yet exciting week for everyone who participated in this years camp! Building positive morale between youth and law enforcement is our goal, along with allowing them to gain knowledge about other resources and opportunities across our state and county. Thank you to our sponsors, parents, campers, and community members who made this year possible! And of course we can’t forget the staff members and volunteers who traveled with us all week. It takes a village, and we have an incredible one!
We are so thankful to have City Slicker Dawgs today in the back lot of PCDC to feed our kids for Summer Camp 2023! She is also serving anyone and everyone that wants a great hot dog! The back lot to PCDC backs up to the Old Childrens Clinic accessible from Bogle St. in Somerset KY!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Charles Bowman & his fellow EMT family at the Somerset-Pulaski EMS today and in the coming days. Another great soul stolen too soon by the grips of cancer… this is just one of the many reason we try our best to raise as much money as possible for the Relay for Life, the more research the better!
What a blessing it was to be a part of the Kids Christmas event on Thursday night! We had cars lined up around the jail and out into Hail K**b Road before we even got started passing out gifts. There will be a separate post with all our sponsors but we couldn’t have pulled this off without all the support we received from our community! PCDC along with the wonderful people at JAB Law Office have big plans for next year, we’ve already got our gears turning on how we can make it even bigger! Merry Christmas Everyone!!
Merry Christmas from Jailer McCollum and the staff from P.C.D.C. Hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas.
Today was an blessing… PCDC along with the wonderful ladies at JAB Law Office went shopping for the Kids Christmas event this week. Mrs. Beverly and all the employees at Ollie’s of Somerset were outstanding! The last picture shown is a whopping 108 bags of gifts that were put together using all the toys that have been donated over the last few weeks! This year we have 321 kids participating in the event and we can’t wait to see them receive their gifts!
Another previous inmate that now has 6 years of sobriety, showed up at the jail today to donate $100 towards our Kids Christmas event! We are absolutely in awe of the community this year and their willingness to help make this event happen. Thank you Stephanie we are proud of you and keep rocking that sobriety, the smile says it all!
Thank you to Chick-fil-A of Somerset Ky for you donation to the Kids Christmas event!! Chick-fil-A is always eager & willing to help us with events involving the community. When we mentioned spoiling inmates children, they were even more excited to hand out free kids meals! Again thank you and we appreciate your giving hearts!
Thank you South Kentucky RECC for donating board games to go in the gift bags for the kids!!
Another amazing example of people turning their lives around to overcome the odds against them. He not only has become a functioning member of our community but an established business owner as well! Bobby Gumm shared with me today that when he was released from incarceration JC Tucker picked him up and gave him a job working with him. Now it’s developed into him growing his own business working along side JC Tucker every day! Today they donated $500 to buy toys for the PCDC Kids Christmas event. What a blessing! Thank you both so much for your donation, we appreciate you!!
So thankful to White Lily Volunteer Fire Department for their donations!! These gifts are sure to make some kiddos smile this holiday season!! We appreciate you!
We just want to say thank you to the community that participated in the Toy Drive at our local Dollar Store on 192 and donated all the toys. We originally had plained on taking them to Shopville School to distribute them to kids in need for Christmas but they was so overwhelmed with toys and gifts that we had to take some to our local jail. The toys will be given to the inmates kids for Christmas. Again we want to thank our community, the Dollar Store Staff, Shopville School, Pulaski County Detention Center staff for accepting the toys and our Assistant Chief Kahlan Starry for starting up the toy drive to help kids in need and for delivering the toys to where the needed to go. Thank you guys and gals for all the support you give us at White Lily Fire Department. This will be a yearly thing for us to do with the toy drive so keep an eye out around this time next year if you would like to donate to the toy drive. Again thank you!
Another huge thank you to Evans, Harville, Atwell CPA & Advisors for their donation to the PCDC Kids Christmas event this year!!
Goodwill of Somerset Ky again showed us their dedication to helping the inmates if at all possible! Today they showed up with 3 huge bags of presents for our Kids Christmas Event next week! These gifts will be handed out to the children of inmates that are incarcerated at PCDC during the holidays. Not only do we get to spoil these babies at an extremely hard time of the year but it helps raise spirits around the jail as well. Knowing that their children get a gift from them even though they can’t deliver it, helps the inmates feel closer to their family during the holiday season. Huge thank you again to the ladies at Goodwill of Somerset KY, we appreciate your dedication!
Congratulations to these three inmates on receiving their GED! Today they celebrate their achievements and graduate with a class at SCC. Special thank you to Andrew Wiley with SCC for his dedication to helping create new futures for the inmates.
The PCDC Express made another appearance this morning in the Eubank Christmas Parade! Today we had Jacobi as our Conductor and he did a great job!
