Celebrating with my friend Asuka! Just finished my last day working/teaching at SMFA — it’s been 24 years and hundreds of students. Quite a few students, current and past, gave me lovely notes! Asuka was my first TA so many years ago, & is a fabulous artist!!! So glad to have this friendship and support —

At the Semi-Annual Garage Sale at the Museum of Printing in Haverhill MA!!!!!

Who knew MassArt had a mascot? So drew this for my Lemon Etch demo this week; students wanted to see printing it with a press, so I went ahead and cranked out a set!! These plus about four that were hand-printed on thinner paper. Let’s hear it for Lemon Etch and MassArt’s Mastadon mascot!

Today my MassArt crew put up some of their wonderful first prints!!! So proud and impressed with these students — it’s a big class of 15, and they are rolling right along!!

So impressed and proud of my Litho students this semester!! These are some of my SMFA students first prints, installed in the Dean’s Suite — just fabulous! Some stone, aluminum plate, and polyester plate. Work by Amanda Lipari Manson, Kaiya Santos, Eliot Swift, Yayla Tur, Delia Wang, Halley Wilson-Thayer, Suzanne Xue, and Rue Amorim!

Last night in Hanoi; had bun cha; then was in one of the hotels’ sky/rooftop bars having a glass of wine looking out over the lake —- quiet and beautiful! There’s a huge crazy street party going on at street level. Did that last night! — soon, off to the airport! Assuming the taxi can come in despite closed streets — till next time Hanoi and friends!! 💕❤️

Update from Vietnam: I have been participating in the Hanoi Art Connecting 6! 150 artists from all over the world are together for a crazy week of art-making, conversations, connections and friendships. I finished these two prints — a race since I love the color and I am a bit slow! But pretty happy with these — they will be in the group exhibition tomorrow —

Lemon Etch Litho also works with Lime Juice!! Good to know since I’m headed to Vietnam for the Hanoi Art Connect 6, and they have lime juice. Huge thanks to .cho_art for helping to test it all —- I see many margaritas in our future!!

Finished these recently: Memory Stones I - V; lithographs; each image is 5.5x5.5” on 10.25x9.5” paper; editions of 10. A set is heading to the 3rd Hanoi Miniprint Biennial!

In the ongoing negotiations with admin, they have judged our efforts and courses on our syllabi; lamenting our lack of rigor and efforts as faculty. There seems to be a lack of understanding as to what a syllabus actually is, so here’s Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary’s definition. BTW — no one has asked to see any actual lesson plans.

AND — this also shows that the plural of ‘syllabus’ can be syllabi or syllabuses; always an interesting debate in my household! Just my two cents . . . .

Finished the second Rocks print (22 x 23”)! First pics are parts of it; then the full print; last is Rocks 1. Super happy!! Thanks to Jules and Shane and the rest of the current MS crew (Subin, Arianna, Kim and Emma) for help with everything so I could finish this one —

The start of some new images (14cm x 14cm). All rolled up — these will be in color; probably will prep the other layers with Lemon Etch Litho for speed — psyched about these little ones! Still finishing/working on my larger Rocks images too —

Scroll through — we’re printing some old stones/labels and some work better than others. This one printed beautifully! So we figured we’d try to print two parts — it looks great! We’ll be printing some full sheets and more of these smalls (approx. 4.5 x 4.5”). A good day in the shop! Many thanks to Kim who did the printing!!

Love it when I roll up a stone; it’s a happy moment — this will be the key layer for my second Rocks image. Image size: 22 x 21”. Making progress —-

I have been a part-time faculty member at SMFA at Tufts for over 20 years. The lack of awareness around diverse methods of teaching, the nurturing and encouragement of creative thought and production is mind-boggling. To say this is insulting is a massive understatement, and painful for me on behalf of all the people with whom I have had the opportunity to teach and share printmaking.

Proofed an old stone this week with help from studio assistants Julia, Kim & Emma! Looks pretty good!! We’ll be working on several other old stones/labels this summer — stay tuned!!

Just posting recent pen tests for polyester plates. I get a lot of questions about which pens to use; and doing tests just takes time and materials and is not exciting. Remember — manufacturers keep adjusting their formulas so this can change.

Now off to something more exciting — anything more exciting.

Had a lovely visit and studio tour of the incomparable Chula Fashion in Hanoi! The heart of Chula is still strong —

I heard the thwacking of the mallet! We were on our way to the post office and then to pick up my new shoes! This gentleman had such control with the tools; he made the carving look effortless! In Hoi An, Vietnam! Off to Hanoi tomorrow —

The Boston Printmakers at the DaNang Fine Art Museum; with David Thomas’ exhibition ‘Finding Parkinsons’.

So honored to have a print in the Boston Printmakers companion exhibit with C. David Thomas’ show “Finding Parkinson’s” at the DaNang Museum of Art, Vietnam. David is a force for community, expression and cooperation.

The Boston Printmakers work will join the Museum’s collection. David’s show will travel to Hanoi next!

Iron Print SMFA was an amazing day of wonderfully talented printmakers cranking it out!! These were the mystery ingredients— each team had to create an edition of 10 including litho, intaglio, relief and screen or stencil! Nothing could be prepped ahead of time — all done between 9am-2:30pm!! Finished print pics tomorrow —

My talk at the Nesto Gallery at Milton Academy was terrific! Wonderful to see people and talk about making art — huge thank you to Jenny Hughes for the exhibition opportunity and Boston Printmakers for scheduling the talk!
