To be totally up front and honest I need some help! The longer it's been since the studio shut down, the more difficult it is to bring in new students to be a part of these wonderful programs. I get it...the younger kids I taught are now graduating from high school! The older students are now busy with marriage, careers, missions, college, etc!

If I could ask all former students, families, friends and relatives to share information I would appreciate it.

In my head I'm still young and relevant! So, if you would, please share this information and hopefully put in a good word. It's a fabulous show and still has more life in it! (pun intended)

REASONS TO REGISTER AS PART OF OUR FREAKY FRIDAYS CAST:

I began producing Freaky Fridays over 20 years ago. It began as an idea to keep the youth performing and busy during seemingly “down” times.

At the time, I was running Clayton Institute for the Performing Arts where, over decades, we instructed over 7,000 students in the arts of voice, dance, stage presence, musical theater, a ca****la music etc (it’s a long list).

I had thought that Freaky Fridays might just be fun for students. Little did I know that it would explode and grow into a yearly production that young people flock to year after year.

Each year Freaky Fridays becomes a sellout show. We typically do 2 shows per night on Fridays during the month of October. Thus, Freaky Fridays. (there are some exceptions).

The production itself is a 45-minute wall to wall singing and dancing experience, visiting Halloween music and dance throughout the years. It is a spoof on Halloween. We take the production seriously. However, we seek to provide audiences and the cast with the knowledge that Halloween is but fun and games.

We divide the production learning into 3 age brackets: 5th - 8th grade, 9th - 12th grade, College PLUS. When all the material is learned, we then bring the entire organization together and create a full, non-stop Halloween production.

The presentation is positive and full of life! (no pun intended)
Whether a boy or girls’ talents are singing, dancing, or both, or even if they just love to perform, there are opportunities group wise and as soloists for everyone.

I have not come to that conclusion as of yet.

Another friend (in a foreign country) said, “The world needs the joy and light your shows give to others right now.” That statement rang very true to me. This especially applies to Halloween at this time of year! Freaky Fridays is a show of complete fun and joy as it sings and dances it’s way into our hearts...spoofing Halloween!

Come, join me again as we produce Freaky Fridays (shows in October). Boys and Girls grade 5th - College PLUS singers and dancers! This is for all of you who love to perform and shine.

First time for Jackson (Vanessa’s youngest) at a Utah basketball game. So fun to spend time with my grandson. He loved it! Utes won big, Brandon Carlson was his favorite player (only scored 30 tonight) and so he got to meet him! Brandon was wonderful. Why? Chris Burgess is my nephew and was so very gracious about everything. Thanks Chris. Great game! Here’s to the years that lie ahead with children and grandchildren. It brought back so many memories.

Tonight was bitter sweet. This picture will be a treasured one for me. We came together tonight to rehearse, “Prayer of the Children”. They will be singing it at a funeral tomorrow.

A few days ago I received a message that rocked my world (by Brian Gourley , his brother). One of my former students, Matt Gourley, had passed away. It was sudden…it was brief…and then he was gone.

When I went to the viewing tonight, it was emotional. Such a shock for that family. I cannot imagine the pain they were enduring, knowing what I was feeling.

As I moved to the casket, one of Matt’s daughters was online (the phone) while still in the mission field. This was the first time she had seen her father. I was overwhelmed. It felt like I was intruding on a moment sacred to this beautiful family.

Matt will be missed. Of all students that I have taught over the decades, Matt will go down as one of the most selfless, humble, and compassionate ones I have ever encountered. Dennis and Diane Gourley, bask in the knowledge of who Matt was. You have done well.

The people in the picture are like my own children. I love them deeply. The experiences we’ve shared over the years have created a beautiful and special bond. Thank you Mike & Amy Williams, Julie Knight, John & Hillary Young, Ryan & Missy Omer, and Andy Dollar.

Life is fragile. I was reminded tonight that everyday needs to be treated as if it were my last. To live…to love…to share…to hope…to embrace…and to say, “I love you.”

There’s always a period of time after I’ve set up for our a capella concert at Cottonwood Presbyterian Church where I just sit alone, in the quiet and feel. I’ve traveled the world and sung and/or visited some amazing cathedrals and churches. Last night, it was the Tabernacle on Temple Square, with its glorious acoustics. But right now, there is a sense of peace here. I am grateful that I have been given talents to share with others. Come and enjoy the beautiful and warming spirit of the music that Harmony will be performing tonight. 7:30 pm - Cottonwood Presbyterian Church - 1580 East Vine Street (6100 So) - the concert is free.
