Annuity myths have regurgitated by those not in the know for decades. Are there bad annuities - YES! Are there good annuities - YES! Are there misinformed "Advisors" Unquestionably, YES!!!
From misconceptions about what annuities are and how annuities should be used, those who explore annuities for retirement planning will sift through misinformation.
Annuities, as an asset class, diversify retirement portfolios and are one of few financial solutions that address guaranteed income for as long as a client may live. This is becoming more relevant as longevity risk plays a bigger role in retirement planning for clients across the country.
It is important to separate annuity myths from the actual truths about annuity benefits. Here are some of the most common annuity myths:
Annuity myth #1: Annuities are for retirees only
Annuity myth #2: Annuities lock up money
Annuity myth #3: Annuities are expensive
Annuity myth #4: Lifetime income is can be guaranteed from investment accounts
Annuity myth #5: When an annuity holder dies, the money is gone for good
Annuity myth #6: Annuities do not supplement income in retirement
Annuity myth #7: Annuity guarantees aren’t reliable
Call me directly to dispel these misrepresentations and to discuss whether or not an annuity is good for you!
Skills you should transfer from your live presentations to your digital presentations:
* Connect with your audience FIRST! Begin with a recent, emotional and engaging story that will help your audience to relate to you and why you are here presenting to them.
* Set your audiences EXPECTATIONS! Road-map your presentation as soon as you finish your opening story. Tell the specific problems you will solve for your audience today and give them a time frame for that. For example, "In the next 25 minutes I am going to solve these problems for you" or "If you're worried about if the market will or will not come back, I am going to teach you how to protect yourself"
* Teach GREAT content! Discuss topics that matter to your audience, make sure you cover how you might solve their current problems rather than to just describe what their problems might be.
* Keep it SHORT! A digital audience is a distracted audience. Do not give them opportunities to disengage. He who teaches the most does NOT win the sale.
* Provide a DISTINCT and SIMPLE call to action! Do not wait until the end of your presentation to bring this up. No one does anything they haven't rehearsed in their mind first so give them ample opportunity to practice in their mind what making an appointment with you will be like and do this during the content portion of your presentation.
* Use STORIES! Paint a picture an make sure it is both current and relatable to your audience. Tell a story about a web attendee last week, or the week before, that scheduled an appointment and how you were able to help that client. Help your audience visualize what the process looks like with you.
* Finish STRONG! You'll notice a theme here... Stories sell! Create a close that is both tactical and emotional. Show your audience what to do, how to do that and why it matters. Remember, this should not be the first time your audience hears the simple call to action.
May the wisdom of others (No, I didn't make this stuff up myself!) benefit you as it has me. Be well and please reach out to me directly with any questions.
