My mission is to aleviate the socio-economic gap. I do this by developing relationships and helping people to take action.
I think it was somewhere around kindergarten that I recognized the difference in how I was treated compared to some around me. It was also around that time that I developed a fear of police due the way they treated my dad as if he was a criminal as we were simply driving through our new neighborhood. It was 3rd or 4th grade that I realized the access I had to resources and experiences that some did not. My father being an entrepreneur took me to places that most of my classmates had never journeyed. Rental properties in areas of town that sometimes had an odor. Sometimes the odor was the sewer my dad was snaking, sometimes it was the pollution from the plants and refineries down river. In fifth grade our school partnered with Newberry Elementary not far from down river Detroit. The kids from Newberry visited our school and seemed to be amazed by almost everything our school had to offer. We visited Newberry and noticed there was no play ground, and the facilities were not in the condition that ours were. It was then I learned how fortunate I was to have a lunch, playground, books in good condition, and classrooms with technology. I wanted to know why? I also noticed as I looked out the window traveling to our family home in Detroit, the way the homes and landscape changed as we ventured further away from Beverly Hills, MI. At this time the difference was not as drastic as present day. I still wondered why? I developed a since of appreciation for the small things, like having lunch everyday, a clean and well equipped learning environment, a playground and sports equipment to enjoy at recess. I also began to ask questions and pay more attention to my surroundings and people. I went on to MSU and found interest in Sociology; Race, Class, and Gender; and of course business. I decided that access was a major factor in determining one experience in life. I became committed to connecting those that are disconnected to resources and experiences that would help to level our playing fields. Money is at the center of it all. The less money you have the fewer resources you have immediate access to. The fewer resources you have immediate access to. The fewer opportunities you have access to, and of those opportunities you have access the less likely one is to be prepared to take advantage. There are still many that manage to rise to any occasion and make a way where there is none. Still, WHY? This is why I have dedicated my life to serving youth, small businesses, and communities. I serve to develop relationships to bridge the gaps. My financial practice provides the level of planning and resources necessary to ensure that we save, protect, and grow what we do have... These steps are necessary to realize sustainable progress and change. To be continued...
