Merry Christmas,hope it is a wonderful day for everyone.

You're demanding the little old lady at the front desk for your oil change to be done faster, meanwhile...
-there's only one mechanic in the 2 bay shop, his apprentice is off due to a broken finger from work
-the only mechanic happens to be 64 years old
-he works at his little shop 7 days a week. 6 days are on cars and the sunday is maintaining the building
-he is overworked and underpaid
-he is supporting his family and trying to put his kids through university
-his wife is sick and working to hard in the shop
-he lost his 40 year old ratchet yesterday
-he just cut his finger open and wrapped it with electrical tape so he could get cars in and out
-he's pretty much deaf, his back and knees are in constant pain
-his personal vehicle is the worst vehicle in the parking lot
-he gets called to the front desk to see you yelling at his elderly wife to get your car in faster. He looks at you, smiles and nods.
-he closes the hood of the car he was almost finished working on, puts the job aside and brings the vehicle from the hoist.
-he brings you inside to do your oil change, gives you a newspaper to read and a coffee to drink.
-he calls you and tells you that your car is finished and ready to go
-naturally you say thank you, you smile and you leave.
Now you think back and realize how much of an as***le you just were. You realize that you've just seen work ethic that couldnt be matched by 10 teenagers combined. You feel like s**t now, right?
Well yeah, but then you think he's probably used to it. Which he is.
5000km's roll by and you're ready for your next oil change. You bring your car to the same shop and you walk into that front door to see the old man standing at the desk wiping his hands with a shop rag, he seems a little down but maybe it's because he was having a bad day. You glance at his clean work shirt before saying "hey there, james! Would you have time to do a quick service on the escape again?"
He tells you the shop's a little tied up but he can get you in in about 45 minutes, you smile, nod and tell him you'll be back shortly!
You come back about 45 minutes later and await in the little empty office until shortly after he comes through that door and takes your key from you.
As you await in the office you notice a picture frame on the desk, a picture of the elderly lady is in it. Another picture on the wall where the elderly lady sat last oil change is also there.
As you're glancing at the photos the mechanic walks through the door, smile on his face and hands you your keys back!
"I tell ya, that kid knows how to work. Didn't even have to ask him. Probably just did the fastest oil change i've ever seen, he also noticed you had some rubbin' lines so he tied em off for ya' too. I raised that kid well all right"
Too which you respond "thank you, i really appreciate that. I'll see you in a few thousand clicks!"
The old mechanic smiles and nods.
That old mechanic has a little thing called passion. He does what he does to support his family, but you want to know what we mechanics love most about our jobs? A lot of us may not admit it, but it's that sight of a vehicle leaving with a smiling customer. It's the satisfaction of making something new again. We pour our life and soul into these vehicles so you can just get around town. We don't seem like much, we really aren't much. But we have a few things that not many people have these days. We have ethic, we have passion and we have pride. And your little "Thank you" is what we love most.
So maybe, just maybe, next time you, the customer, brings your car into a shop. Say thank you, dont get in the mechanic's way and maybe even offer the guy or girl a coffee (that's our weakness). Be patient. You don't go to a hospital and order the surgeon to hurry. Were just humans living life everyday and loving every second of it.
