I am a Massage Therapist with 17 years of experience helping my clients move to a pain free life

06/06/2024

Confession… it’s taken me almost 17 years to get into a regular routine of getting massage myself. Life gets busy. There’s always a to-do list. It’s not always easy to carve out time for myself. But I’m learning. I’m learning to listen to my body. To slow down. That it is ok to take care of me too and not just when I hurt. I know the benefits of regular massage. I preach them. I’m thankful for the community of therapists that I’ve become apart of that work together to take care of each other. Thank you so much for the incredible massage today.

Finally a name for one of the biggest concerns I see. Tech Neck Syndrome (TNS) Think of the amount of time you spend on your phone and how long you are putting this strain on your body. From your head putting 10-12 pounds of weight in a neutral position to 60 pounds at a 60 degree angle!

Tension doesn’t always come from physical stress. We can hold our emotions in our bodies in ways that cause us to have physical pain. I remember in my early days of massage, a client having a panic attack on my table. It was one of my first experiences of emotional release during massage.

Emotional release refers to the release of deeply held emotions such as sadness, anger, grief, or even joy during a massage or bodywork session. It can manifest as tears, laughter, or a profound sense of relief. While it might catch you off guard, it’s important to remember that emotional release is a sign of your body’s innate ability to heal itself, both physically and emotionally.

When receiving a massage, the combination of therapeutic touch, relaxation, and the manipulation of soft tissues can activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This process can stimulate the release of emotional energy that has been held within the body, providing an opportunity for emotional healing to take place.

My hope is that I have created a space that not only invites you to experience these emotions but also feel safe in your experience. Somewhere you don’t need to apologize for feeling. Somewhere you feel a little lighter when you leave.

What is the difference between therapeutic and relaxation massage?

A therapeutic massage is a form of massage therapy performed to help treat general or specific problems in one’s body. The goal of a therapeutic massage is to treat a specific issue, rather than simply helping you to relax.

A relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle treatment that relieves muscular tension, increases circulation, and promotes a general sense of relaxation. It is not intended to treat sports injuries or other discomfort and is instead used to reduce muscle tension while bringing the body back to a relaxed state.

A massage does not have to be either a therapeutic massage or a relaxation massage. Your massage sessions are most likely a combination of both. Your needs may change from appointment to appointment. Communicating your needs with your therapist insures you get the most out of each session.

One of the most common issues people come to me with, are neck and shoulder problems. When you interview for a job in massage, part of that is giving a massage to your prospective employer. I was 22 and incredibly unsure of my skills and ability. I ran over my time and left thinking there’s no way I will get this position.

A few days later they called and offered me the job! When I spoke with Andee, she told me that was the best leg massage she had ever received. She went on to become my mentor, my encourager when I struggled to believe in myself. She pushed me to put myself out there and believe in what I bring to the table. I recently reconnected with her and one of the first things she asked me was “so, do you still love leg massage?” 17 years later and she still remembered!

This job is also where I met Amanda .aesthetics.wellness, which ultimately led me to where I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful for both these women!

And yes, I do believe I still give an amazing leg massage!

I received an amazing gift from a client today! These pillows have a cutout to allow you to be face down during massage while pregnant. I have always bolstered with pillows during massage and I base positioning on the comfort of my client. These allow clients to receive massage while face down further into their pregnancy and with added comfort. I’m excited to try them out and for the added comfort it will bring to my expectant mommas.

I get asked a lot, “how often should I get a massage”? While I do believe everyone can benefit from monthly massage, the answer varies from person to person. If you are coming in for injury recovery, it may be you need to come weekly for a while. The same can be said for chronic or acute pain treatment. For most people monthly massage is beneficial. Whatever your needs are, adding massage to your wellness routine can be just the extra care your body needs.

Let’s face it, sometimes 60 minutes just isn’t enough. I’m excited to offer another option to get you a little more time on my table. Whether you are looking for help in injury recovery, managing chronic or acute pain or you just need a little extra time to destress and unwind, I’d love to get you back to feeling like your best self. Why do we push water on our clients after a massage?

During the massage, metabolic waste and other substances are released into your body’s fluid. Drinking water will help you flush out these substances.

Massage can cause dehydration as we release fluid from your muscular tissue into your vascular system.

Due to the increased blood flow caused by a deep tissue massage, your kidneys have filtered more than they otherwise would have. So, the water intake helps the kidney function better post-massage.

Many people feel muscle soreness the next day after their massage appointment, especially in areas on which the massage therapist focused. Drinking water can help deal with post-massage soreness in muscles.

This is where I find my peace. My calm in this crazy, busy life. It’s the one space in my life that is just me and what I bring to the table. I’m not the million different labels I take on during the day. It’s my space to connect and hopefully bring peace to those who lay down to rest and heal on my table.
