Unbound Health
Naturopathic Family Medicine offering services to the Spokane area.
Introducing myself, Dr. Rebecca Nuñez or Dr. Becca for short. I’m a Bastyr Graduate and found my love for medicine at a very young age. Suffering from multiple health conditions as a kid and continually being in and out of hospitals since I was 9 years old left me quite familiar with the medical system. I decided I wanted to be a doctor when I was just 10 years old and have never wavered from that goal since. I have a special interest in gastrointestinal disorders and believe most things, start in the gut. I love a good puzzle and tend to attract complicated cases that I work through layer by layer with my patients. It is the humble and good doctor that says, “half of what I know is incorrect, we just don’t know which half yet”. As knowledge in medicine and nutrition continue to warp and grow, I hope to continually do so as well.
I’m a Christian, mother and wife who understands the important connection between mental, physical and spiritual health. Through my own life experience and daily growth, I strive to understand and meet my patients where they are at in their health journey, with shared decision making, without judgment, and full of empathy.
Meet the owner, entrepreneur, and glue to all things MØDE. This is Luke Kjar. A man with a deep passion to care and help others. His concept of MØDE comes from an understanding that ‘It Takes a Village’. This community, here and now, is responsible for raising our youth to be the leaders of our future.
No one can deny that parenting is HARD work. It is as much emotional and spiritual as it is physical. So MØDE was born. First a school to help educate that next generation. Then a co-working space, creative center, fitness, primary care, and so much more to support the mind, body and souls of those caring and leading the youth of our times.
Unbound Health joined MØDE Primary Care because we too believe in the need to come together, build our village, and help one another.
Come join the movement.
Come be a part of our village.
All smiles at MØDE where helping the community and truly making a difference lights up our hearts. Come see all the amazing things MØDE has to offer including Direct Primary Care and dance classes for all with Dusty

You’ve probably all seen “Echinacea” before listed on the cold, flu, and immune boosting teas and products in the grocery aisle. Echinacea seems to sneak into EVERYTHING and for good reason. There are hundreds of studies showing Echinacea (multiple species) is a powerful herb to stimulate the immune system. The plant is full of potent constituents in the flower, leaf, AND root. Best to harvest each part of the plant at their peak (leaves spring, flowers mid to late summer, and roots fall). Today I’m using just flowers leaves and some stem to start my tincture, but will add in roots in the fall. Then we’ll have a big jar of echinacea tincture ready for those winter colds! Simply grab your echinacea From the garden, roughly chop, and throw in a jar, cover with alcohol (at least 80 proof for the root extraction), store and shake daily for two weeks. After that, strain it out and out your liquid into dropper bottles for use throughout the year! Easy tincture! Also shoutout to all the little hands (and paws) that helped today.
Headed out to the kitchen garden this week to grab some OREGANO! Not only to add to a feta potato roast, but also to make oregano oil. Oregano adds incredible flavor to dishes, and has powerful antimicrobial activity. My herb infused oil is going to sit in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks and I’ll give it some good swirls every day to get a good infusion. Then I’ll have it in hand throughout the year! One way to use fresh leaves is also in a tea with some honey when that next sore throat hits. Another plus of oregano it’s great to add to your garden for our friends the bees. They LOVE this plant arguably as much as we do! Happy gardening, cooking, and fighting infection with Oregano!
Happy 4th of July friends! For the 4th herb in the series I’d like to introduce you to my giant friend MULLEIN! Mullein (Verbascum thalamus) is a common w**d in the PNW but a powerful medicinal herb. It seems everyone is coming down with that summer cold following the long holiday weekend, and mullein is here to help! The LEAF is a great respiratory tonic and helps expectorate all that deep phlegm. The FLOWER is also good for the respiratory system but also pain relieving specially topically to the inner ear. So time to make some garlic mullein ear oil for acute ear infection treatment! Happy harvesting and wishing you all wellness as summer continues - Dr. Gesko
Week 3: chocolate, cream, and an herb that has a mild mint profile, helps settle indigestion, calms restlessness, and helps wind down for a good sleep….??? Say no more, I’m in! Introducing catnip (also called catmint) and herbal chocolate truffles! Catnip is a favorite of the feline friends, but has many medicinal uses for humans as well. It brings a luscious bright green presence making it a popular choice for gardeners, and has a delightful mild mint flavor. I harvested leaves from about 15 stalks and put most in the oven to dehydrate and store for use in calming teas through the year. I also used some to infuse into cream to make the chocolate ganache pictured at the end (it’s waiting to be rolled into truffles tomorrow)! Try to make some at home for a rich, refreshing and relaxing summer evening treat!
Week TWO I’m introducing you to one of my all time favorite herbal preparations: bitters.
This was my first time making my own bitters preparation and I used one herb, Gentian. Gentian has a long history of use as a digestive aid.
You use the root of the plant and it is well extracted in alcohol. Most commonly you can find gentian tinctures but I made an herbal wine.
Final product includes wine, brandy, honey, lemon, lime, and 2 teaspoons of powdered herb root. (Shout out to my favorite local herb supplier Lorien)
Bitters are INCREDIBLE for gut health. Taken 5-10 minutes before a meal they stimulate gastric secretions to prep the body for an incoming meal. They stimulate the vagus nerve with anxiolytic qualities to help promote the nervous system to “rest and digest” state. And they stimulate peristalsis to get the digestive tract MOVING.
If you are experiencing indigestion, gas, bloating, constipation, reflux, or mix hunger signaling…try out bitters.
There are a wide variety of bitter preparations containing gentian along with other herbs. To get a more specific bitters blend designed for YOU, message me for more recommendations or a consult.
Sending happy tummy vibes your way!
Welcome to week 1 of “An Herb a Week”! Follow for a weekly highlight of a medicinal herb: where to find, how to use, and what to use it for.
Today we are going to focus on Nettle (Urtica dioica), a common w**d that grows all over the Pacific Northwest (and many other places in the world).
This HIGHLY nutritious plant contains phytosterols, saponins, flavanoids, tannins, and proteins. It’s high in vitamin C along with many minerals including non heme iron.
It is known to be anti inflammatory, antiviral, analgesic, immunomodulating, and nutritive.
For many years, healers have reached for nettle first things like arthritis, rheumatism, nephritis, and allergies.
This herb is bright, refreshing, cooling, soothing, and DELICIOUS. Today’s preparation involved harvesting leaves from a patch growing wildly in the yard (reminder to wear thick gloves and full covering clothing to avoid the stingers). Then to remove the stingers and make ready for use, some leaves were dehydrated, and some were blanched in hot water for 90 seconds then strained and used to make some fresh nettle pesto for lunch!
