Our logo says "Improving Vision Through Therapy & Research". Our focus is people (often kids) whose eyes are not working together and this interferes with visually demanding tasks such as reading. Often reading problems (rightly or wrongly) are referred to as "dyslexia". We try to test everyone with the same battery of tests for eye coordination (binocularity). That has allowed some insight into t

Here is our version of Uncle Sam; we call him Doctor Eric! Stay safe out there today. We will be closed today, but if you have an emergency, Dr. Hussey will be available, but it may be hard to see around his snazzy sunglasses and hat!

Summer! It’s that time of year when the sun is shining brighter and you need a nice pair of sunglasses. Do you have a pair you love? If not, come in to pick out your ideal pair. It could be something classic or maybe wild and fun. Stop by and order a pair that you can rock this summer! ☀️

Happy Family-Owned and Operated Business Day! In case you did not know, we fit into this category.

Dr. Lester Hussey (pictured top left) purchased the clinic in 1946, and his son, Dr. Eric Hussey (pictured top right and bottom right), our current doctor, joined in 1975 (Dr. Eric would like you to believe he was 12 when he started). Both wives have worked in the business to different degrees over the years. Dr. Lester's wife worked as a fill-in when necessary, and Dr. Eric's wife managed the billing department for 25 years. Two of Dr. Eric's daughters have worked in the office, and Erica (pictured bottom left) still does. She currently manages the business (and keeps Dr. Eric in line).
We love serving families as well. We have several families where we take care of three or four generations. 😊

Happy Father’s Day! I hope you enjoy family photos from all of us in the office with our dads when we were little!

In honor of this special day, I think a dad joke is in order. What is it called when you poke your eye with safety goggles?
...

Eye-rony!

Since that one was so great, how about one more? What did the eyeball say when he was arrested?
..

I’ve been framed, officer!

That’s the last one, eye promise. Okay, now I’m done. Roll into Father’s Day, and I don’t mean roll your eyes, with a stylish new pair of shades (known to the new generation as sunglasses).

Call and schedule your annual exam today, and remember to call your dad. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! ❤️😎

Diabetes is, unfortunately, a common ailment here in the US. Just as monitoring your blood sugar is important, checking the health of your eyes is as well. There can be some nasty problems if diabetes and your blood sugar are ignored. So, stay on your guard! Diabetes is a full-time job, and it can be a lot to handle, but it can be handled successfully.

Your diabetes specialist is in charge. If the word specialist scares you, come see Dr. Hussey, where laughter is often heard throughout the office. We are happy to help by doing retinal evaluations and sending a quick report to your diabetes doctor. Don’t let monitoring your eyes fall under the radar. Call and schedule your annual eye exam when it’s time. And be sure we know who we need to send a report to. ❤️

Oh, glasses! I really do love glasses. It is my favorite thing here to help people pick out their next pair of glasses. I have several pairs—four, to be exact. Plus, my computer glasses. And a few pairs of sunglasses. But who's counting anyway? I love the art and fashion of glasses paired with their functionality. Being able to see and look good? Win! 🏆

My goal with every patient looking for new glasses is to get you a pair of glasses that you love, function with, and look good in. We're going to talk through what lens options will work best for your daily life, what frame styles you like, and which frames feel the most comfortable. Uncomfortable glasses mean they sit in a drawer never to be worn, and that is not my goal.

Come on in and let us help you find your next favorite pair of glasses. 👓

It’s Memorial Day. That means a lot of places, including us, are closed for the holiday. So go have some fun, go to a BBQ, go to the beach, but also remember what this holiday is about.

Memorial Day is a day to remember our fallen soldiers that sacrificed for us and our country. Memorial day is also a day we can reflect on love, courage and sacrifice like what God did for us and sending His son to selflessly die on the cross for us.

So thank you to the men and women and their families that fought and are fighting for our country!

Hopefully you all have had a great experience in our office. Whether you came in for your annual vision exam, ordered glasses from us, or maybe completed our Vision Therapy program our goal is to treat you like our family. 👓❤️

If you had a great experience, it would mean a lot to us if you would leave us a review! https://g.page/r/CYwLlJrgs8l6EBM/review

Spring Break is coming! No school? Got nothing to do? Come in and get your eyes check. Return back to school from spring break with a new prescription and a snazzy new pair of glasses. (But call first!)

Half way through the school year! You are half way to summer and all the way to first semester grades (I know, "yay!" and "boo!"). Do you have a kid who no matter how hard they try they just can't bring up that math or language arts grade? You know this kid is not lazy, but nothing they have tried is helping. It might actually be a problem with their eyes. When your eyes are not sending a constant and consistent message to your brain it makes it really hard to learn. When your brain is receiving fragmented information it starts to make things up. Kind of hard to ace that math test when your brain turned a 3 into an 8. Let Dr. Hussey check your kids eyes to see if Vision Therapy is right for them. If it is, we will train their eyes how to talk to the brain so that 3 stays a 3.

Happy January! I know I'm too late to wish you a happy New Year, so I'll stick with happy January.

Did you know most vision insurance benefits reset every January? That means, in many cases, you don't have to wait a full 365 days to get your eyes checked or to order another pair of glasses. Ask us to check your insurance benefits and we'll let you know what you have available. Interested in a second pair of glasses? We offer a 10% discount if you pay in full with cash, let us price it out for you.

Did you know there is a National Eric Day? Funny the things you find online...Well, we have one of those and he happens to be our Doctor! Dr. Eric Hussey has been in practice for 48 years and I'm not allowed to tell all of you that this is almost half a century (but you could remind him at your next visit). What does he like to do? Eyes. Really, he is a big eye nerd. Which is probably why he's so good at his job. He is a fanatic for getting the eyes to work together as a team with the brain (Binocularity for any other eye nerds out there). And he never really grew up which helps when you work with kids. You will never catch him at work without a cartoon (or other nerdy) tie on. His favorite is his Bullwinkle tie, followed closely by Snoopy, but it changes. Let us know below your favorite Dr. Hussey story.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a great holiday with your family and friends. We will be closed Thursday and Friday so we can do just that, but feel free to visit with us on Monday, we open at noon.

Not only do we use Vision Therapy to treat reading problems, we also use it to treat concussions and TBI's. Check out the infographic on the visual symptoms of a concussion. If this sounds like you give us a call.

Did you know October 11th is National Kimberly Day? And we have one! Kimberly is our Assistant Manager. She answers phones, tests patients, is a Vision Therapist, helps patients pick out glasses, bills insurance, and is our resident tech wizard. She has been with us for 7 years, but is currently MIA. She did just have her second child, Isaac, so I guess I can give her a break. Feel free to offer your congratulations here or when she's back in December you can tell her in person.

Oh man, the teenage girls love this trend: Granny chic! To us old people these frames have 1970's-'80's vibes and are maybe too close to the frames you wore as an 8 year old for you to try again, but to the younger generations these are amazing.

09/29/2023

Another glasses trend to try is sheer colors. They add a little bit of color to your face while still blending in. This style comes in a variety of colors from fully clear to pinks, purples, grays and browns.

09/26/2023

In need of a new pair of glasses? Check out this glasses trend: Round frames. Round glasses look good on most face shapes, they are a great option for bifocal wearers offering a large reading area, and are also very accommodating for petite faces. Like the John Lennon look? Or Harry Potter? Give round frames a try.

We’re moving into the dark part of the year. The days are getting shorter. Night driving can be a problem. If cataracts are coming on, it’s just that much worse. I recommend cataract surgery earlier rather than later these days. The reason is
research confirming our view that the brain likes good visual information and detail. If night driving is a problem and we’ve talked about cataracts, it might be worth discussing a little further as the days get shorter and the nights longer.

Did you know there is a day celebrating finding your inner nerd? I though this was funny and turned it into a glasses challenge. Who can find the nerdiest pair of glasses? Let us know who you think won this challenge!

Did you know last month had National Book Lovers Day?! For those of you who just groaned, have you considered having your eyes checked? Many of the people I have met who hate reading hate it because it's hard. When your eyes and your brain do not communicate as a team the message coming from your eyes to your brain comes in fragments, not in one understandable piece. Then what happens? You put the book down and go play soccer. Kids are a lot smarter than adults in this way. Let Dr. Hussey check your eyes and see if we can ease your frustration with Vision Therapy. I may not be able to make you love reading, but I am confident I can make reading not so hard.

Meet Asha, our newest employee! She is doing Pre-testing, Post-testing, and helping with vision therapy.

She says her favorite thing in the office is learning about vision therapy and being able to do therapy with the patients that come in. She enjoys this because she gets to work with the kids and learn about how eyes are intended to work together.

When she is not at work she enjoys helping in the kitchen to help feed her 4 younger siblings. She also enjoys bike riding and is hoping to continue her studies in kids and family ministries.

It's (almost) back to school time! I know some of you are saying "Yay!" and others are saying "What! Not yet!" (I'm number 2). Whether you are living in reality or ignoring it (like me), it is time to start collecting school supplies and new clothes for those kids who shot up 2 feet over the summer. It's also a great time to get your kids in for their eye exams! Call our office to schedule before you have to pull them out of school or work around sports practice and have them seeing their best on their first day of school.

Our office will be closed Monday, July 17- Friday, July 21. No, we're not going on vacation. We will actually be working, just not with patients. Our long-standing billing software is retiring at the end of the year which means we now get to learn a brand new system. The good: new online paperwork and scheduling. The bad: manual data transfer. If you have an urgent question please email it, and I will continue to check that.

Today is World Sea Turtle Day!

I thought it would be fun to see what is cool about sea turtles' eyes. To us, their eyes are huge with very large pupils, but in proportion to their bodies, they are actually very small. Their large pupils make it easier to see when they are deep in the sea catching their food. Sea Turtles can see bright lights so well because they have an even distribution of cones and rods throughout their eyes, whereas we humans have cones throughout our eyes but rods(which help to see bright lights) are mainly in our peripheral vision and completely absent in the center of our vision. Sea turtles are able to see color better than humans which helps them catch their prey, like jellyfish, quickly because they can see their vibrant color. They are able to see close to ultraviolet, green-blue, and yellow light and can’t help but follow them. So next time you are at the beach at night, bring a red flashlight so you don’t attract the sea turtles to you!

Happy Easter!

Here is Kimberly’s favorite Easter memory growing up.

When I was younger and at church, I had one teacher who would do a fun activity that I will do with my kids when they get older. You take a package of jumbo refrigerated crescent rolls and flatten them and put a large marshmallow in the middle of the crescent roll and seal up the sides of it to create a ball. This represents Jesus in the tomb after he was crucified. Then roll them in butter and then cinnamon and sugar and bake them for 13 to 15 minutes at 375 degrees. This represents the 3 days that Jesus was in the tomb. When your treats come out, you open up the tomb(crescent roll) and Jesus (marshmallow) is no longer there. It is a great way to show kids the story of Easter. They sit and watch the oven the whole time, don’t take their eyes off of it, and shortly, Jesus is no longer in there!

What’s your favorite Easter memory or tradition?
