Did you know that the dog silhouette on our sign is Carol and Dana's prison graduate Ellie? Here she is, playing Vanna White to an amazing donation of treats and food from Prairie Dog Pet Mercantile collected to help the Pawsitive Dog prison training program at the Airway Heights Correction Center. Dogs from SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. will be arriving the prison tomorrow for a 12-week training course where they will be trained by incarcerated individuals who attend classes taught by Diamonds in the Ruff instructors.

Ellie (former program graduate from Session 3 in 2013) wants you to see the amazing donations gathered for us by our good friends at Prairie Dog Pet Mercantile! Thank you to everyone who dropped off donations and added a few "presents for prison pups" to their shopping list at Prairie Dog!

Maverick belongs to one of our trainers at the AHCC Pawsitive Dog prison training program. In addition to being a Diamonds in the Ruff - Training for Dogs & Their People instructor, she and Maverick are also members of the Ruff R***e canine freestyle dance troupe. He completed the AHCC program in the last session to graduate before covid shut the program down 4 years ago.

Also, if you are shopping for treats for your pup at Prairie Dog Pet Mercantile, toss a few extras in your shopping basket and tell them to put them in the collection for the prison training program. We can use any tiny treats: small dry packaged treats, dehydrated raw treats, Stella & Chewy or Steve's meal toppers, Red Barn Air-dried food makes great training treats (chicken or beef - the fish tends to crumble) and Happy Howie rolls are always appreciated!

Yelling come at the back of your dog's head while he tears down the street will not teach him to come. Learning only happens by teaching and practicing in situations where they are able to successfully repeat the desired behavior. Perfect practice makes perfect learning. This is how you reach fluency!

Work on building trust and reliable behaviors in controlled situations. Then gradually increase distractions as their recall strengthens.

It's always a bit windy in Airway Heights and today was no exception! It will be several weeks before new dogs go in, but today was our first time meeting a new group of handlers for Session 27 of the Pawsitive Dog Prison Training Program at Airway Heights Correction Center. I am so impressed with the group of men that were selected.

Diamonds in the Ruff trainers Allison, Travis, Michelle, Hayley, and DITR owner Carol took their own dogs in today. Dany, Lili, Wasabi, Maverick, and Ellie. Maverick and Ellie are both graduates of the program. Ellie was beside herself to get to go in and see the guys!

We are preparing the men to meet their new charges. Six dogs front SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. will meet their handlers the week after the 4th of July.

So sweet! Someone left us a painted rock at the Ruff House with the perfect message. We love what we do. We really do.
