Anyone raise BBS bantam Cochins or BBS English Orpingtons?
Due to getting heavy into Quail this year we are cutting back on some of our other livestock in an attempt to keep the feed bill down and maintain space for future babies.
We currently have the following critters available for new homes:
Call Ducks: 4pr of mallard colored (sold)
4pr of pied (Sold)
Ancona ducks, drakes only at this time
Bunnies: a few unrelated mini Rex, Holland lops, all from this Springs litters
All adult breeding age Holland Lops, a few select Mini Rex Breeders, and a few Netherland Dwarfs all had litters this Spring. the unproductive ones have already been rehomed.
Various breeds of chickens, to include, white leghorns, black australorps, and some barnyard mix my daughter raised, lots of extra roosters and pullets.

So I just did a thang…
I put 756 Coturnix quail eggs in the incubator….
Expect a lower than normal hatch rate due to some eggs being infertile getting mixed while I was on vacation
Just returned from being out of town, having issues with FB blocking my account, not sure how or what’s wrong, I haven’t posted much in about a month.
59 quail made 13 packs:
3x 5 whole quail packs
1x 4 whole quail pack
5x 8 breast only packs (2 in Italian/3plain)
4x 20 leg only packs (2 in Italian/2 BBQ)
If you haven’t heard, we are raising Coturnix Quail, we have a large variety of colors. We currently have eggs for eating, once fertility is checked we will have eggs for hatching. We will begin hatching chicks again in August 2023. We have a few different age chicks or young birds available. Message for details
I am thoroughly enjoying our new quail covey, so I thought I would try to persuade YOU to add quail to your life, too!
• Quail take up far less space than chickens. Heck, I’ve got them in my garage and some people even keep them in their house!
• Less space = less investment... we won’t talk about the cost of our chicken coop 😅
• They hatch in just 18 days.
• They grow/lay quickly. Whereas a chicken may or may not lay by 20 weeks, Quail almost always start laying around 6-8 weeks. This is standard processing time as well.
• Their meat is INCREDIBLE and doesn’t get tough if you miss a few weeks past prime processing time or if you have some older blood you’d like to switch out.
• Processing is quick, easy, and fairly clean. I can do mine, moving slowly, in 7 minutes.
• Quail eggs are superior in nutrients to chicken eggs.
• They are quieter than chickens.
• You can skirt around the rules in most cities & HOAs to raise Quail, providing a super sustainable meat/egg source without needing a “farm”.
I’d love to expand further on each of these, but I could seriously go on forever! I’m sure I missed a few key selling points… but these birds are just fantastic.
If you ever have any Quail questions, please feel free to reach out!! We love talking about our animals 🖤
They just started laying this week, a couple over achievers laying these 3 massive eggs
Some of the 3-4 week olds moved to the grow out cages.
A quick peak at some of the variety of colors of Coturnix quail we are growing out for future breeders.
One last dig through the nasty shavings for those oh so tasty fly larvae. Today the graduated to the grow out bunny cages.
I’ve seen T-shirt’s bumper stickers and lots of social media post saying “Don’t have a cow!” In my personal opinion the world was a better place when more people did. I get my love for animals from my mother….if you are wondering.
Quail chick picture day at the farm! Look at all those color varieties! Individual colors in the comments. I’m still learning all the technical names, but they are all Coturnix.
In spite of a 16+ hour power outage last night due to storms, 86/90 Assorted Coturnix Quail eggs hatched.
