Meet Hayleigh Rosa, Gateway alumna, and 2021 college graduate:
Motivated and hardworking, Hayleigh Rosa got a head start on her degree as a Gateway student. Through the Gateway program, she completed all her developmental math and English classes while still in high school, and also took college-level courses, including some prerequisites and requirements for her major.
Hayleigh graduated from the Gateway program with a total of 20 college credits and enrolled at STCC. While at STCC, she further developed her leadership skills as a Student Ambassador and earned an associate degree in Biology. Hayleigh will be continuing her studies in Biology at Springfield College. She ultimately intends to go to medical school.
We are looking forward to hearing more about what the future holds for Hayleigh!
Congratulations to Annick, Hajiro, MaHailey, and Hayleigh on their accomplishments. We look forward to following their continued success!
Meet Hajiro Ali, Gateway alumna, and class of 2021 college graduate.

Though she experienced some challenges, she didn’t give up! She persevered, sought tutoring, and managed to earn 21 college credits before graduating.
Hajiro transferred to STCC after obtaining her high school diploma through Gateway last year (2020). In this short period of time, she managed to complete the prerequisites for the nursing program, and earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts. She additionally received $17,000 in grants and scholarships, and is transferring to Elms College where she will be studying for her bachelor degree in Nursing.
We are extremely proud of Hajiro and wish her all the best in her endeavors.

Resilient and determined, MaHailey Butler enrolled in the Gateway program after being disengaged from high school for a short period of time. She managed to turn what seemed like a hopeless situation around, obtained her high school diploma, and earned 16 college credits.
MaHailey is the ideal picture of perseverance. She exhibited great commitment and determination in spite of obstacles and various personal and medical challenges. However, she didn’t give up in the face of difficulty. She pushed through, and took advantage of the resources provided by STCC and the Gateway program.

Our Story
Gateway to College could be right for you if:
- you are a high school student between the ages of 16 and 20 and,
- you have left school or,
- you are thinking about leaving school or are behind in credits and/or - you experience challenges with the traditional high school setting and/or - you attend school other than public school for various reasons, including home school - you read at an 8th grade level or higher
- you live or go to school in Springfield or Agawam, MA
- you are motivated, ready and willing to work hard
Through the Gateway to College scholarship, students who experience challenges with the traditional high school setting, or are behind and not on track to graduate, or have left school for various reasons, including homeschooling, have an opportunity to complete their high school graduation requirements at our college-based program while simultaneously earning college credits for FREE.
Gateway to College students learn how to succeed in an educational setting under the guidance of a supportive and caring team of staff, instructors, and academic counselors dedicated to their success. In their first term, students learn in a small community of peers. This experience builds their academic and personal skills, preparing them to transition to college courses with the general student population. In addition to reading, writing, and math, students take a college skills class to learn and practice the habits needed to transform themselves into successful college students.
Students take classes with the general student population and focus their studies in a "pathway" that is aligned with high school completion requirements and college degree or certificate requirements. This allows students to maximize college credit acquisition toward their post secondary goals.
The program achieves success by combining high academic expectations with one-on-one advising and support. Academic Counselors act as coaches, mentors and advisors to help navigate issues which could hinder student success. The wrap-around support is designed to keep students on track.
Because the program is offered on a college campus, students feel that they are treated as adults, and respond well to the academic and behavioral expectations of the college environment.
Changing lives!
Thanks to Gateway to College, students have an opportunity to experience college while finishing high school, and those who may have been unlikely to graduate high school are earning their diplomas and succeeding in college. They are additionally pursuing college degrees and challenging careers, and are reinventing themselves for a better future. Interested? Want to know more? Attend an information session.
