Temperatures will be below normal this coming work week with rounds of showers and thunderstorms and a slow warming trend. None of this storm activity is expected to be severe at this time. Enjoy the cooler temperatures while they last!

Campbell Avenue CLOSED at night between Republic Road and the eastbound U.S. Route 60 ramps in 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Wednesday & Thursday nights, July 17 & 18
Contractor will CLOSE north and southbound Campbell Avenue under U.S. Route 60 at night from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Wednesday & Thursday nights, July 17 & 18. Crews are removing the barrier wall on the Route 60 bridges as part of the U.S. ROUTE 60 (James River Freeway) Widening Project Between National Avenue & Kansas Expressway. Thunderstorms this afternoon may be severe with large hail and damaging winds. Frequent lightning will also accompany the storms. Remain weather aware this afternoon and evening.

After a final hot day today, temperatures will drop below normal starting Wednesday. Below normal temperatures are expected into next week.

Everyone seems to throw a lot of terms at you about the weather. Make sure you know what they mean. Our intent is always to keep the community safe and our area is currently under a Heat Advisory. The attached NWS graphic details what that means as well as other heat related emergency information.

A Heat Advisory is in effect into Tuesday as heat index values climb back into the 100-109 degree range. Northern areas will be cooler on Tuesday. Overnight lows will only drop into the 70s. Be safe out in the heat.

Ramp CLOSURES In
• Northbound U.S. Route 65 to westbound I-44 ramp
• Southbound U.S. Route 65 to westbound I-44 ramp
8 p.m. Friday, July 12 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 15
Contractor crews to add a high-friction pavement treatment at various locations to help improve traction at curves. Route 65 ramps will not be closed at the same time.
After a short break from the heat, it will be back in full swing this weekend into next week. Plan accordingly and make a plan to stay safe in the heat!
Thunderstorms will continue to slowly push east into this afternoon in the green shaded area on the map. Localized flooding, 1 inch hail, and 60 mph winds are possible in the strongest storms.
Environmental conditions have evolved this morning, and pop-up thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening are now expected to be capable of low-end severe hail and wind. This threat lasts between about 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Storms may continue after 10 p.m., but will no longer be severe.

Temperatures gradually rise through the end of the week. There are low chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms today and Friday.
Crews are responding to a water main break in northwest Springfield. Water service has been interrupted in the area. Repairs are expected to take approximately 2 to 3 hours. Updates will be provided when available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time. Thank you for understanding!
UPDATE 8 a.m.: Water is restored for the area, but will be low pressure for a few hours as repairs are finished.
UPDATE 7/12: The Boil Advisory issued on 7/11 has been lifted. All repairs were completed and all tests have been approved. Thank you!

Contractor will CLOSE north and southbound Campbell Avenue under U.S. Route 60 at night from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Wednesday & Thursday, July 11 & 12. From 10 p.m. Thursday, July 11 until 6 a.m. Friday, July 12, westbound Route 60 traffic will be shifted down and over Campbell Avenue using the westbound Route 60 on and off-ramps. At 10am we will be conducting our monthly test of the outdoor warning siren system.
Rain will start to move in Friday afternoon. Highest rain chances will occur overnight Friday into Saturday morning. A few rumbles of thunder may be possible overnight. Rain exits the area by Saturday afternoon.
