Here is the second batch of photos from last week's Confetti Collage workshop taught by fiber artist and teacher Rhonda Denney. Everyone who attended was inspired by the possibilities of this technique.
The quilt tops were pieced by Sew Scrappy group member Kathy C., who is on a quest to "get rid of my strings." These turned out great! We can't wait to see them after they're quilted.
π Happy Independence Day! πΊπΈ Let's celebrate the freedom and unity that make our country great. Enjoy the fireworks, festivities, and time with loved ones. Here's to the land of the free and the home of the brave! π½π
Rhonda Denny conducted a fantastic workshop last week teaching her Confetti Collage technique. During the workshop, attendees learned how to applique tiny pieces secured by netting and then quilt them. You can learn more about Rhonda and see examples of her work at RhondaDenney.com. Thanks, Rhonda! It was a fantastic workshop.
Here are the first batch of photos from the event.
Here are a few pics from a recent Quilt Show Boutique sew-day! Our guild members donate their time and talent to create beautiful, useful items to sell in our guild Boutique (fundraiser) during our upcoming OPQG Show. Boutique chairperson, Kim S., led the group in making sewing caddies. She pampered participants with homemade blueberry muffins made with fresh-picked blackberries. Yummy! π
Sew Scrappy group member, Mary L., recently brought this lovely quilt top to share. The butterflies scattered throughout are a wonderful addition to this scrappy pastel color palette. We look forward to seeing this top after it's quilted!
Today, we celebrate not only our dads but all father figures who have positively impacted our lives. Your love and guidance have made us who we are today. Happy Father's Day! π

My name is Dianne, and I'm the volunteer who posts on the guild social media accounts. I was in the guild a few days ago and this gorgeous patriotic quilt was hanging on the wall. I looked on the back and didn't see a label so unfortunately, I can't contribute this beautiful work to its creator. My guess is this quilt was made by a member of our Patriotic Piecemakers group for an upcoming Quilt of Valor ceremony. This quilt is a beauty and I am sure the veteran who it is awarded to will be thrilled to receive it. β€οΈπ€π I can't say enough good things about the members of our guild who donate their time and talent and then donate their creations into our community. Quilters make a difference in the world one stitch at a time. π§΅πͺ‘

Guild member, Brenda M., made this quilt in our Community Quilts group for our squad car program. We donate quite a number of youth size quilts to area law enforcement agencies and we call them "squad car quilts." Greene County and City of Springfield law enforcement officers keep our quilts in the trunks of their squad cars and when they take children into protective custody they are given a quilt to keep. This brings comfort to the child and fosters trust between the child and the officer. Quilts=Love

The Singer serial number for this machine is AH822498. The prize includes the accessories and case, as shown in the photo. This machine was purchased from Turnerβs Featherweight, one of our OPQG Show's long-time exhibitors. It has a new needle and lightbulb and has been cleaned and oiled. It is in good working condition.
Guild member, Evelyn M., made this "Jelly Roll Twist" quilt as a donation to our Community Quilts initiative. While scrappy in design, the use of many green fabrics give it a lovely, cohesive look. Great work, Evelyn!
That's Faye from Shawn's Sewing Center in their booth at our '22 show! π We're excited Shawn's will once again, be our Gold Show Sponsor for our upcoming show. We still have a few booth spaces available, so if you are on the fence about securing a booth, it's time to act! Send an email to [email protected] and we'll send you all the info. See you at the quilt show!
This lovely, scrappy quilt was pieced by members of our Community Quilts group. Kate R., pieced the top and then it was quilted and bound by Annie S. This quilt will soon be in the hands of a local relief organization who will then gift it to a person in need. Quilts = Love

A huge shout out of thanks goes to our May speaker and workshop leader, Lea McComas for a fantastic program! Many of us remember her incredible quilt, The Long Goodbye, exhibited at the 2022 AQS Show in Branson (pictured in this post). Lea, we truly appreciate you sharing your talent for quilting and thread painting with us. πͺ‘π§΅π©·
Guild members participated in a fun and informative thread painting workshop with Lea McComas. Participants completed a series of small exercises to learn skills in isolation and then combine them in more intricate compositions. They began with basic exercises for drawing, filling and blending before moving on to creating texture, contour and depth. Skills learned in the workshop can be applied to a variety of pictorial and abstract quilting projects. Thanks Lea, your presentations during yesterday's meetings and today's workshop have been fantastic!

William Luce is a 94-year-old Air Force Chaplain who served in the Korean and North African conflicts and is a Vietnam Veteran. Our Patriotic Piecemakers Group awarded him a Quilt of Valor to honor his service in a private ceremony in '22. Let us reflect on his sacrifice and express our deepest gratitude to all who gave everything for our freedom.
We continue with a celebration of veterans who our Patriotic Piecemakers group awarded Quilts of Valor. Pictured here is Marvin Ealy, a 92-year-old Korean-era Veteran. Marvin was in the Army, was wounded by gunfire during training in Puerto Rico and returned home. Marvin received his quilt in a private ceremony in '22. Today and every day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the veterans who have served our nation with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. Your bravery has ensured our freedom and protected our way of life. Thank you for your service!
This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten. Let us reflect on their sacrifice and express our deepest gratitude to those who gave everything for our freedom.
Tommy Daniel is Harriet's son (see yesterday's Quilt of Valor social media post) and a Navy Veteran. He served three tours of duty onboard a ship in Vietnam. Our Patriotic Piecemakers Group awarded him a Quilt of Valor in a private ceremony in 2022.
Today, and every day, we honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served our country with courage and dedication. Your sacrifice and commitment to protecting our freedom inspire us all. Thank you for your service!
