The first week of the semester is off to a beautiful, sunny start, and our Information Desk is staffed from 8am-midnight Sunday-Thursday and 8am-9pm Friday & Saturday. Happy Fall 2024!
Summertime is project season for Library Services, and one big project has been sending books to the Internet Archive (archive.org) to be digitized! The Internet Archive is a free digital library with a mission to provide “Universal Access to All Knowledge,” and this batch of print books will become part of the freely-available online collection. Thanks to student worker Carolyn and library staffers John, Lynn, Cathy, and Patrick for packing up this shipment on the Learning Commons loading dock during last week’s heat wave! 📦🌡️🌞
We wanted to keep Andrea busy before she retires! She’s working one last shift at the Information Desk with our newest student employee, Meraj. What a dynamic duo! ⚡️
The annual Library Services staff retreat included a visit to Longmeadow's Storrs Library and a guided tour of the historic Longmeadow Cemetery. Thanks to Library Director Jean Maziarz (especially for baking us delicious retire”mint” cookies in honor of Andrea’s retirement!) and to Al and Betsy McKee of the Longmeadow Historical Society. A beautiful day for team-building and local history!
Congratulations and THANK YOU to our fantastic student employees who are graduating this weekend! Library Services couldn't run without you! We've loved working with you during your time at Springfield College, we'll miss you so much, and we wish you all the best!🎉
Library Services summer hours! From May 8th to September 2nd, all four floors of the Learning Commons will be open Sunday through Friday from 8am-4pm. Library Services staff will be available in person and on chat during these open hours. We will not have staff in the building on Saturdays during the summer, but the 24-hour space (1st & 2nd floor) is still available anytime with your SC ID card! 😎🌴
You're so close to the end-of-semester finish line! Before you leave for summer, please remember to return your library books (especially Interlibrary Loans!) to the Learning Commons. You can drop them off at the Information Desk or in our convenient 24-hour drop box by the main entrance! 📚📖
The Library Services Reading Day Snack Cart rides again! 🥨🍪 Thanks to our wonderful student workers, Emma, Maggie, and Maeve, for bringing late-night snacks to hardworking students throughout the Learning Commons. Good luck on your finals, Springfield College!
Still thinking about the great time the Library Services staff had watching the eclipse (safely!) with our fellow Learning Commons staff and student workers yesterday! Our future's so bright, we gotta wear shades. 😎
is a great time to remind you that research help is available from your friendly reference librarians on the 2nd floor of the Learning Commons! Schedule a research appointment or just stop by to see our colorful new welcome sign (handwritten by Hannah; thanks, Hannah!) 🌈
The end of the semester went by in a whirlwind of studying for finals, writing papers, and enjoying treats from the Library Services snack cart!

Happy Thanksgiving! The Library Services staff will be enjoying the holiday until Sunday, 11/26. The Learning Commons 24-hour space (1st & 2nd floor) is open during break with your SC ID card, and of course the library's online resources are always available wherever you are!
Happy Halloween from Library Services! Our costumed staff include Lynn the tuxedo cat, Jill the fox, Gretchen the pumpkin, Andrea the pirate, and Hannah the mermaid, plus Alli casting Fireball (which we believe is a Dungeons & Dragons reference!) 🎃
One million visitors to the Learning Commons! That's right: As of this afternoon, one million students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, guest speakers, prospective students, and others have walked through these doors. The Harold C. Smith Learning Commons opened six years ago in October 2017, and we've been busy ever since! These three lucky students walked in at the same moment and were all declared the millionth. Congratulations and enjoy your gift bags of library treats! 🎉
It's Banned Books Week 2023! Library Services is celebrating with our friends from Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society. Visit the display in the Learning Commons to write a postcard to your favorite author, grab a free button or sticker, work on a banned books puzzle, or just check out a great book!
Happy first day of classes, Springfield College! We know it feels like summer out there, but the Fall 2023 semester has officially arrived! Library Services is here to support you 7 days a week, whether you visit us at the Information Desk, make an appointment with your liaison librarian, send us a chat or text message, or use our online resources or Chatbot after hours. And, of course, the 24-hour study space in the Learning Commons is always available with your SC ID card!

An exciting day in the Learning Commons!
