Eighteen students from Lindenwood University's Dance Program traveled to The University of Michigan to take part in the American College Dance Associationâs East-Central Conference.
With 28 universities participating, the event offered master classes, research presentations, concert viewings, and constructive feedback sessions, exploring various forms, styles, and aesthetic dimensions. Amy Gammon, Adjunct Instructor of Dance, and Tricia Zweier, Associate Professor of Dance & Dance Program Coordinator, instructed over 150 students in genres including jazz, hip hop, and yoga.
Lindenwood University was also participated in the conference Screendance Festival. Works such as âLouderâ by Ana Cristina Tavarez and Jorge Martinez, featuring choreography and performance by Annesley Haring, and âCarouselâ by Joshua Rodriguez, featuring choreography by Kloei Monthei and Lexi Young, were showcased. Natalia Stuartâs work, âStorge,â was presented in one of the conference's two Informal showings.
A notable feature of the conference was the blind adjudication of select works, with a panel of internationally recognized dance professionals including Jeanine Durning, Edisa Weeks, and Helanius Wilkins. Sophomore BA Dance candidate Taylor Tricroce expanded on her piece, âuntil we meet again,â premiered last November, for adjudication. Lindenwood alum, Sam McReynoldsâ piece âStuck Journey,â was also chosen. Out of 34 dances, 10 pieces, including Tricroceâs and McReynoldsâ, were selected for the festivalâs Gala Concert, marking the first time in Lindenwood University Dance Programâs history that two pieces earned this distinction inside of one festival year.
The festival adjudicators praised the student performers for their âstrong, cohesive, and dynamic performance.â Witness more of our work at our Spring Dance Concerts from April 17th to 20th at the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
