Active meditation was one of the first Somatic Practices that allowed me to actually FEEL grounded in my body and my own experience.

I am a natural caregiver - you could say I lived in a state of 'FAWN' response for many years. Tending to others needs, taking care of things for others, assessing needs in a room, assessing a shift of energy and jumping into action. I lived there...for YEARS. 😬

When I started learning somatic practices I learned how disconnected I was from my own body and experience. I was so tuned into others I didn't even know what my own body was feeling. What sensations...um? Total blank stare...or I guessed [insert fawn response]. 😳

Active meditation, specially the one we will be sharing helped me to tune into my own body signals and experience.

Learning to tune inward was a whole new experience for me. I had to slow down and pause A LOT, I needed a ton of reminders and lots of compassion with myself. It was like exploring new territory!

As I write this I remember the very first time I experienced this active meditation. I remember how I felt so connect to my body afterwards. I remember thinking 'I need more of this in my life'. I remember the next days and weeks being more open and different. That ways a big turning point for me and I am so grateful for it.

Now the time has come to share these experiences with my community!

Find a Path of Connection to Yourself

Embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and inner healing in this Breathwork + Sound Healing Ceremony. This immersive experience combines the power of conscious breathing techniques and the therapeutic vibrations of sound to guide you towards profound relaxation, self-awareness, and rejuvenation.

We will begin this class with discussion of breathwork, the benefits, what to expect in a breathwork ceremony as well as tips and tricks. In this ceremony we use an intentional and slightly activating circular breathwork pattern. This breathwork is designed to help you sink into a meditative state and follow your body in releasing what you no longer need to hold. After the breathwork portion we will guide you into a state of relaxation through the use of sound and restorative yoga.

This experience is designed to support you on your healing journey, explore and deepen your connection to yourself and create an opportunity for self-discovery.

This workshop is open to participants of all levels, those brand new to breathwork and those looking to deepen their connection to self. No experience is needed, just an openness to allowing this profound experience open the pathway.

While Breathwork is a beautiful experience it is important to note a few contraindications. If you are currently pregnant, have severe/uncontrolled asthma, severe heart disease, untreated/uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of psychotic breaks, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, epilepsy/history of seizures, severe/unregulated diabetes. If you are unsure if breathwork is right for you, please reach out to us to discuss your specific needs.

This workshop will be led by Tom & Kelly Zalewski from Oasis Well Being and will be held at GVST Wellness in St. Clair Shores.

$30 per person

Participants should bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow, etc. to create a comfortable nest for the breathwork session. We have extras available to help make you comfortable.

What is active meditation anyway?

Sound a bit odd but I find it to be an amazing tool when my brain needs a break and my body needs to move!

I am a person that gets stuck...I need to move my body to shift my energy and active meditation is one of my favorite ways to do just that!

1. What this really means is using movement or breath, usually a specific pattern of movement or
breath to create a state of focus in the mind. When the mind is busy and focused on following a
specific pattern of movement or breath it is hard to focus on the stream of thoughts, it becomes
easier to allow the thoughts to flow away. Sinking deeper into the experience of the movement
and breath creates an experience of connecting with the body, listening to the signals within.

Movement in an active meditation may look like following a specific walking pattern or it may
mean using a certain area of the body in a way that feels best to you. For this workshop we will
be standing and using our arms and legs to play with moving in different directions around our
center (or in a chair for those that are not able to stand).

2. What to expect?
All movement patterns are able to be modified to work for your body. We will give several
suggestions and queues to help you along the way. Movements can be modified for all ability
levels and for anyone needing to make modifications for injury or limited mobility.

Our goal is to help you find the movement pattern that works best for your body, it doesn't really
matter what it looks like! It is more about what it FEELS like to YOU.

3. What will happen?
The movement and breath are gentle but can be powerful. Eventually as the meditation
continues your body starts to give you signals and signs. The goal is to notice and continue
moving. Notice what happens when you shift, notice what happens when you go a little faster or
become more playful. How does it feel if you slow way down and become really intentional with
your movements?

As we end the meditation we will guide you to a state of rest and relaxation while we play a
variety of instruments. After rest we will foster discussion and integration. Cont in comments.

✨️Sharing somatic practices with my local community is close to my heart.

It brings me joy to be joining my good friend Erica Bretz from .wisdom.healing to share this active meditation for the first time.

What makes this meditation unique is that it incorporates gentle movements and a breath pattern (don't worry we will teach you). Through this meditation you find your own flow in your movement while connect deeply to your center - your hara.

Using an active meditation that involves movement and breath is helpful for those that have a hard time with finding a quite mind in stillness.

Looking to try Somatic Movement or Breathwork?

We have the perfect opportunity for you this Monday.

We will begin with movement to explore the feeling and sensation of expansion and contraction. Using breath and sound to support the body in learning to flow between.

Contraction mimicks the holding, guarding and tensions in the body. As stress increases we tend to hold positions in the body that increase tension and guarding.

Expansion mimics opening, allowing and curiosity. It is in an expansive state that we explore and allow ourselves to be more free.

By intentionally flowing between states of constriction and expansion we are creating pathways for the body and nervous system to feel the stuck energy or emotion and release.

We cannot live forever in either constriction or expansion...we need both!

Learning to flow between helps to remind the body to find balance.

✨ 2023 was the year that I saw how much my grounded presence helps set people free.✨

🔥 I leaned deeper into sharing my journey, and how what I do really helps my clients in unique ways.

❤️ With Clients: Less problem solving, more giving the power back to my clients so that they can walk their healing path with artful support. (It works so, so much better!)
