Judge Sarah Smith ordered a trial to start on August 22, 2022 for the lawsuit filed by the Holland Law Firm and co-counsel, which claims that the blockbuster antacid drug overheats and degrades to form NDMA, a well-known and potent carcinogen discovered in the 1900s as a by-product of manufacturing rocket fuel.

Today, the only use for NDMA is to cause cancerous tumors in lab animals. An independent laboratory first reported the presence of NDMA in the drug in 2019 and, following numerous voluntary recalls, the FDA issued a mandatory recall of all products containing ranitidine on April 1, 2020.

The trial setting will be the ๐‡๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‹๐š๐ฐ ๐…๐ข๐ซ๐ฆโ€™๐ฌ first major pharmaceutical trial since scoring a multi-billion dollar win for 22 cancer victims in 2018, which withstood all levels of appeals.
