The Car Accident 10 Commandments

1) Check to see if anyone needs urgent medical care. If you can, try not to move the vehicles unless they are causing a major problem with traffic. If possible, wait for the police before moving anything.

2) Call the police so they can make a report.

3) Seek emergency medical treatment if necessary. If emergency treatment is not necessary, make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. If you can, speak with our office before the appointment so we can help ensure that your treatment is paid for. Be sure to give the physician an accurate history as to how the accident or injury occurred.

4) Don't give any statements to anyone concerning your case until you have contacted us. This is because people such as insurance claims adjusters will often try to act like your best friend while trying to take your comments out of context in order to harm your case. Remember: “Anything you say can and will be used against you (by an insurance company) in a court of law.” Let a licensed attorney with experience speak on your behalf.

5) Collect Important Information about the other driver(s). For each other driver involved, obtain: name, address, phone number, insurance carrier and policy number.

6) Take Pictures with your phone if possible. Get photos of the damage done to each vehicle involved, the location of the accident, license plates, and insurance cards of everyone involved.

7) DO NOT DISCUSS WHO IS AT FAULT. You should NEVER discuss fault with the other party or parties involved. The details of how you feel or what you were doing are not their concern. Even if you feel like you did something wrong, do not accept responsibility or indicate responsibility.

9) Apply for all benefits to which you are entitled. Our Firm can help you with this.
