New Audio Play Focuses on Creativity and Friendship at St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center

Participants in PPA’s Arts & Healing program at Saint Louis Juvenile Detention Center recently wrote and performed a new audio play titled WE’VE COME A LONG WAY, BUT WE HAVE FURTHER TO GO.

Led by PPA teaching artist Carl Overly, Jr., this project emphasized creativity and teamwork. Carl split the students into three groups, and tasked them with crafting a story centered on friendship and mutual support. The project fostered self-expression, collaboration, and learning.

When asked about their favorite part of the writing process, some students mentioned getting to write their own stories, coming together as a team, and expanding their vocabulary.

This project highlights the power of arts in transformation and growth. We are proud of our students and grateful to Carl Overly, Jr. for his guidance.

We invite you to experience this incredible journey by listening to the audio play here: https://bit.ly/4cIgKVu

🎭✨ The Power of Adaptation: GATSBY OF A THOUSAND FACES reimagines a classic novel

Classic literature endures not only for its timeless themes but also for its ability to evolve with the times. The Great Gatsby, a quintessential novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, explores ambition, love, and the elusive American Dream against the backdrop of the Jazz Age. As we prepare for GATSBY OF A THOUSAND FACES at Missouri Eastern Correctional Center on August 1st, we celebrate how this adaptation revitalizes Fitzgerald’s masterpiece for today’s audience.

Adaptations like GATSBY OF A THOUSAND FACES breathe new life into classic literature, ensuring these stories remain relevant and impactful. By reimagining Fitzgerald’s narrative through the lens of multiple Jay Gatsbys confronting their creator with "literary corrections," this production invites audiences to reconsider familiar themes in a contemporary context. It’s an innovative approach that not only honors the original text but also sparks new conversations about ambition, identity, and the blurred lines between reality and illusion.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of THE GREAT GATSBY or discovering it anew, GATSBY OF A THOUSAND FACES promises to deliver a fresh, immersive experience that captures the essence of Fitzgerald’s vision while offering a compelling reinterpretation for today’s world.

These Gatsbys have some "literary corrections" they'd like to make to the novel that gave them a tragic ending. However, a few rogue characters complicate their efforts at a literary ambush.
