Adding Intention to Your New Year’s Resolutions
Happy New Year! January is a common time for people to set new year’s resolutions, an admirable idea, to be sure. If you’re anything like me, such resolutions are only somewhat effective however, as I find myself energized and ready to work toward new goals for only a few months. Once spring hits, I often lose interest and/or drive. Once the excitement of the holidays dwindles and the cold sets in, I have more time to sit and reflect. This time of relaxation energizes me in a new and different way, allowing me the opportunity to reconsider my intended direction.
Note my use of ‘intended’ here. I’d like to suggest that you set intentions for the new year rather than resolutions. You see, ‘resolve’ means ‘to decide firmly on a course of action,’ whereas ‘intend’ is defined ‘to design (someone or something) for a particular end.’ Therefore, while a resolution includes direction determining what or where, intention also has purpose, answering your why. It is not only a decision to act but also a design for how. Answering ‘why’ and ‘how’ dig deeper than sticking to the ‘what’ and ‘where.’
When I first resolved to start a coaching business last year, I had already determined my basic goal: to found a family coaching business that serves youth, adolescents, and adults convening by phone, over zoom, or in person at a mutually agreed-upon location. These were the nuts and bolts. I had heavily considered why I thought coaching would be my next move following careers in education and social work. But I had dozens of other questions rattling around my brain regarding how to get it off the ground.
I’m happy to announce that today marks seven months since I launched my website, www.larahaascoaching.com ! I acted intentionally about establishing my business and I intend to maintain this intentionality as I move into the second half of my first year in business.
I invite you to determine what your intentions are for the new year. Draft a plan and start checking off the action steps. If you get stuck and need a jumpstart, email me at [email protected]. It’s time to shift out of neutral and zoom ahead into 2024!
I still have space available. Reserve yours today!

Good Wednesday morning!
As a family coach (and caring community member), a lot of parents come to me with concerns for their college-aged kids and/or their own challenges adapting to empty-nesthood. We all want what is best for our kids (no matter their age) and understandably, have trouble watching them struggle.. Adjusting to a new stage in life is hard and can be rather painful at times. I know, as my kids are 20 and 23. I'd love to help!
In addition to offering coaching services for youth, adolescents, and adults (www.larahaascoaching.com), I'd like to facilitate a support group for parents in this position. If I were to post a survey to learn what setting (in person/virtual), time (days, evenings, weekends), frequency (one a week, twice a month, monthly), and possible agenda topics, how many of you would be interested?
The more I think about this, the more excited I get. I really think this could be a wonderful way for us to support one another. Who's in?

Looking forward to meeting you soon!
Happy HOT (in St. Louis) Tuesday! I've received a lot of interest in life coaching for teens and young adults lately. The only problem is, the inquiries are coming from you, the parents. That's not a problem in and of itself. However, if you want to get your kiddo help, but your kiddo hasn't committed, we're at a standstill. Right? This is a common theme! Young people are busy with so many things, and it's the start of a new school year. So, THIS is the time to get on top of things, not once the year is half gone and it's harder to dig ourselves out.
So, I wanted to share a blog I wrote specifically for you, giving tips on how to help your 18-24-year-old feel comfortable getting help! www.larahaascoaching.com/guidance-for-helping-your-adolescent-or-young-adult-child-commit-to-life-coaching/ In the blog, I link another blog that I wrote for your adolescent/young adult. These are examples of the over two dozen posts I have available on my website www.larahaascoaching.com. You can receive these as they are published when you subscribe to my free newsletter at www.larahaascoaching.com/freebie.
The main thing to remember is, we can't help our kids without involving our kids. TALK TO THEM about what their wishes and goals are. HYPE THEM UP and encourage them to think that THEY CAN DO IT! If they want to but don't know how, then you say, "Well I know a coach who can help." Or, ask your kiddo to contact me directly. Yes, PUT THEM IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. It is their life. We can help. But we can't do it for them. We need to work together.
If you'd like to chat, drop me an email at [email protected] and let's get going!
Thanks for reading.

Have you spent any time thinking about how your past successes affect your future aspirations? Share your insights so we can learn from one another!
Rallying Past Successes to Fuel Future Aspirations – Lara Haas Coaching Rallying Past Successes to Fuel Future Aspirations 0 Have you ever given much thought to how your past experiences affect your future success? Good morning! I was thinking about how my emotions affect my broader state of (well)being a few days ago and decided to get some of my thoughts down on paper (computer, really!). I recognize how happiness often comes from a sense of joy. I tend to be an optimistic person but hadn’t really contemplated the relationship between it and hope. Check out one of my newer blogs https://www.larahaascoaching.com/joy-is-to-happiness-as-hope-is-to-____/ and leave a comment so I know what you think!
Joy is to Happiness as Hope is to ____? – Lara Haas Coaching Joy is to Happiness as Hope is to ____? 0 How are joy, happiness, hope, and optimism related? I think of joy and hope as emotions while happiness and optimism are states of being. In other words, joy is an emotion felt by someone who is happy, contented, or satisfied, while hope is an emotion felt b...
Are you a forgiving person? I know, it's kind of a weird question without any context. But I've been thinking about it since I wrote a blog on it this week. How do you respond when someone has wronged you? Does it eat at you for a long time? Really, if we could forgive others when we are upset, wouldn't we be so much happier? I'd love to hear your ideas. If you'd like to learn more, please read my blog https://www.larahaascoaching.com/forgiveness-act-or-attitude/
and let me know what you think!
I'm awestruck by my new puppy! Awe is a complex emotion. According to Lani Shiota of the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley, it is "a fundamental part of being human-making our bodies and minds more receptive to new information, new experiences, and life’s deeper meaning." Anytime we take Penny out, people of all ages come running to pet her. What is it about young people and animals that’s so attractive to others? Go to https://www.larahaascoaching.com/im-awestruck-by-my-little-penny-puppy/ to read my blog about Penny and how the science of awe plays out in our daily lives!
