In her Shower Power series, features the mischievous Pink Panther at the center. Bernhardt became fascinated with the Pink Panther when she stayed at the Pink Palace Hotel in Waikiki, Oahu. Upon all the pink inspiration, Bernhardt decided that she would add the Pink Panther to the cast of characters in her existing oeuvre.
It’s a wrap. A great week in Aspen for Intersect Aspen and Art Crush! We had a very successful fair and saw many old friends and met many new ones. Already looking forward to next year in the mountains!
Very pleased to have worked with the US Capital team on implementing a public art plan for the new and very beautiful Forsyth Pointe building in downtown Clayton. After an extensive search we commissioned this stunning Mads Christensen piece entitled Campfire. Check it out. It looks so cool at the entrance to the building.

Happy 100th birthday to one of the great American artists of the 20th Century!
"When I see a white piece of paper, I feel I've got to draw. And drawing, for me, is the beginning of everything."
"The form of my painting is the content. My work is made of single or multiple panels: rectangle, curved or square. I am less interested in the marks on the panels than the "presence" of the panels themselves. In "Red, Yellow, Blue," the square panels present color. It was made to exist forever in the present; it is an idea and can be repeated anytime in the future."

Happy birthday to my dear friend and collaborator Bernar Venet! Congratulations on the recent installation at the Place Vendome in Paris. It is an honor to know you and to have shown your work for twenty five years!
Just got these two large scale prints in by Robert Longo. I have always loved these Men in the Cities works. Straight from Christian Bale’s apartment in American Psycho! Inspired in part by neo-noir cinema, rock star poses popularized by music videos, preppy men’s and women's clothing, and the rise of Wall Street, these pictures embody the spirit of the age in a way that few works ever managed to.

In Bochner’s iconic Thesaurus Portraits, words are graphically expressed through his use of repetition, synonyms, slang, and expletives in bright colors. Through these works, Bochner hopes to explore how we as viewers perceive and interpret different types of information or ideas by blending the conventions of both language and art.
I became interested in the work of Charles Gaines when I sat on the selection committee for a proposed piece of public art for the Arch grounds in STL. Gaines’ proposal Moving Chains was the clear cut winner, but due to funding and other circumstances, the piece was never realized. Creative Time never abandoned the project and it has been realized and is currently installed on Governor’s Island in NYC.
Shearburn Gallery pleased to present the following new editions by Gaines.

Rickey's fascination with the wind's movement is especially evident in his Four W's sculpture. He explored the ways in which motion from wind currents could collaborate with the parts of his sculptures. The simple and geometric steel parts always stay the same but the way the sculpture gracefully engages with elements of the natural world is always changing depending on the shimmering sunlight and wind currents.

Great, exciting, incredible week in Miami for Miami Art Basel and all of the auxiliary fairs, dinners and parties. It's amazing how the cultural landscape of Miami has changed over the last 20 years. So much to do, so little time...

Allan Graham, who sometimes used the name Toadhouse, was a contemporary American artist based in New Mexico. His work included sculpture, painting, poetry, and video. Graham worked with words and letters in many of his projects and had a keen eye for seeing words as shapes.

Fall Install
Had fun re-installing the gallery today. Reunited two old St. Louis friends – Jerry Wilkerson and Ken Worley. Jerry painted in a contemporary Pointillism style that he called Dotillism. He loved food and pop culture and all things St. Louis. The garden painting from 1989 was one of his largest paintings. He and Ken Worley were best of friends and contemporaries. Ken sketched and painted the Missouri landscape for 40 years with great passion and thoughtfulness. This amazing large scale oil stick on canvas depicts the natural beauty of Rockwoods, just west of St. Louis. Love the drama and dialogue that these two pictures create.
The Hunt for Red October begins with the first game of the Cardinals’ postseason kicking off this afternoon! For a little inspiration, we look to a painting of Cardinals’ legend Bob Gibson by Stephen Dinsmore. GO CARDS!

Wayne Thiebaud
Daffodil, 1979
Etching and aquatint
29 3/4 x 23 inches
Edition 33/50
Wayne Thiebaud (1920 - 2021) is famous for his colorful works of mouthwatering cakes, pies, pastries, and everyday items. While his work enjoys a broad appeal and evokes a distinctly American nostalgia, Thiebaud’s complex depictions of light and shadow give depth and strangeness to his deceptively simple compositions. Although he is often classified as an American Pop painter—and he was included in the two historic and groundbreaking shows of 1962 that established the movement—Thiebaud never embraced the mantle of Pop and preferred to describe himself as a traditional painter of illusionistic forms.
KIT KEITH: I LIVE ALONE
June 10 – July 16, 2021
Reception for the Artist, Thursday, June 10, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
William Shearburn Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works on paper by legendary St. Louis artist Kit Keith. Inspired by outsider art and artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol, Kit will often paint over found materials from thrift stores, old magazines and advertisements. This exhibition consists of over fifty female portraits, each one painted with acrylic on found onion skin letterhead and created over a few months’ time during the pandemic. Each portrait is reflective of the artist’s disposition on the day on which it was created. Whether happiness, angst, relief, contentment, frustration, anger, joy or loneliness, each portrait conveys in itself, a feeling.
Please join us Thursday evening, June 10th from 5:30 – 7:30 for a reception for the artist. The exhibition will remain on view through July 16.
