There are times when a provider can reveal your health information to others, even if you have not said they could. Watkins says examples of this are “if you are under 18 years old and are being abused or threatened, or if you are at risk of hurting yourself or someone else, or if talking to another provider might help in getting you the care you need, like referring you to a specialist.” There are a few other reasons a provider would share your health information (like if a court order requires the release of your medical information to law enforcement). Still, a provider should let you know before they do so.

Our Story
Continuing with the success of the CHOICE Project, the Contraceptive Choice Center (C3) is a health care clinic committed to providing reproductive and s*xual health to individuals, including teens, in the Saint Louis area at affordable, low costs. At C3, you can learn about birth control, get a new contraceptive method, receive testing for s*xually transmitted infections, or get a pregnancy test or emergency contraception.
C3 is similar to other health care providers, meaning we charge for services provided and payment is due at time of service. We accept most major health insurance plans including Medicaid. However, if you do not have health insurance, you may qualify for reduced pricing. We also have a health insurance navigator on staff to assist you with signing up for health insurance.
C3 is also conducting a research study to see if improving birth control services can reduce unintended pregnancy and decrease health care costs. We will be collecting information about birth control method use, pregnancies, and insurance information. You can still be seen for clinical care without participating in the research study.
The Contraceptive Choice Center is supported by Grant Number 1C1CMS331354 from the Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
CHOICE Project Background
The Contraceptive CHOICE Project began enrolling participants in 2007 with three main goals: to remove financial barriers to contraception, to promote the most effective methods of birth control, and to reduce unintended pregnancy in the Saint Louis area. Birth control was offered to participants at no cost to them, and contraceptive counseling was offered to all participants to help educate them about all methods that were available. Over 75% of the nearly 10,000 women participating chose Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC) methods. LARC’s (IUD’s and implants) are considered to be the most effective forms of birth control, and the results of the CHOICE project were overwhelmingly positive.
