Distinguished Lecture:
"Whence Evidence-based Mental Health Care? A Historical Reconstruction and Reconsideration of the EBM Paradigm"
Abstract:
The ideal of EB mental health care is a product of a particular historical trajectory. This trajectory has led us to a reductive (and harmful) conceptual framework for both operationalizing mental health outcomes, and assessing and training clinicians in mental health care. I offer a distinct framework, one that will enable more effective, and indeed, empirically informed, work in mental health care. Key to this, however, is understanding the historical origins of the framework. History of science can make for better philosophy of science, and better, indeed more ethical clinical practice.
About the Distinguished Lecturer: Dr. Anya Plutynski is a Full Professor in Washington University St. Louis' Philosophy Department. Her research interests center around philosophy of biology, history and philosophy of medicine, philosophy of science, and biomedical ethics
Abstract Submission Form:
