The 1G Collective would like to take this time to commemorate Alex McCray. Alex was a First-Generation student at Fontbonne University studying to become a Social Worker. His deep passion for helping others was paralleled by his leadership, bravery, and intelligence. His presence and messages of acceptance and love touched the lives of many. We are deeply grateful for the time we had with Alex and are proud that he was part of our 1G community. Let us carry on his love.
Time for another 1G Collective Student Spotlight!
This is J'von Halbert, a freshmen student majoring in English for Secondary Education! He is already serving as a leader on campus by starting our Creative Writing Club, starring in theater productions, and becoming a Student Ambassador!
We asked J'von, "What is something you’ve learned as a First-generation college student in college so far that you would like future First-Gens to know?"
His response was, "Something that I've learned as a First-Gen student at Fontbonne that I'd like to share is, to not be afraid to ask for help. Everyone here at Fontbonne is so nice, and they are so willing to help students out as long as we seek the help."
Keep up the great work, J'von!
Happy Friday everyone! We’re celebrating the weekend with a picnic on Art Hill!

"Anxiety is something many people deal with, and it's normal because we deal with change all the time," Charles explained. "But when you feel like it's getting in the way of your happiness, it may be time to talk with a therapist to work through whatever's going on so that you can get back on track."
Many College Students Struggle With Anxiety: Here's How To Cope Anxiety isn't all in your head. It can manifest through shortness of breath, fatigue, breaking out, sweating and other physical symptoms.
The Davies-Jackson Scholarship presents a unique opportunity for students with exceptional academic records, who are among the first generation in their families to graduate college, to participate in a course of study at St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge. Scholars are admitted as affiliated students and have the opportunity to take the more advanced parts of a Cambridge degree course and qualify for a Cambridge BA in two years instead of the usual three.

Did you know that pulling an "all-nighter" is NOT the best thing to do before an exam?
Not only is lack of sleep bad for your overall health, but studies show that sleep is one of your best study tools. If you study right before you go to bed, then your brain files away all of the information you studied while you are resting. In other words, the more you sleep, the more you remember.
So start studying a couple of days before! Give your brain time to file away everything you know, and then practice it the next day! You will be well rested and do great on your exam!
Good luck on your exams!
