To our friends, family, artists, and supporters:

When we unexpectedly lost our spot on Tower Grove Avenue, we were both pretty defeated and unsure what the future held for Union Studio. When we finally allowed ourselves to daydream about what could be next, we kept asking ourselves, “Where do we want to spend our time? What type of space do we enjoy being in and what would excite us enough to take another risk?”

We wanted a space that sparks creative energy. A place that would be worth spending time away from our family or better yet, where we could spend time with our family. A place where we could become a part of an existing community and in turn, welcome the community. The opportunity to work with other small businesses and weave Union Studio into everyday life.

We landed on The Lobby.

We’re so proud that you can still shop over 150 local artists and makers in this space. Creating connections between artists that make beautiful work and community members that want to support them is at the core of what we do. The addition of drinks, snacks, and books creates opportunities for people to carve out a moment or two just to enjoy. We have sat in the warmth of these sunny windows many times over the summer and delighted in the thought that someone else might find a moment of peace doing the same. Novel Neighbor’s events in the evening, even though they’ve just started, provide such a lovely glimpse into the potential of this space. The joy and excitement that people experience when connecting over a shared book brings such contagious energy to the room.

We also want to acknowledge and celebrate the neighborhood that has welcomed us to this beautiful place. There are so many thriving creative businesses and restaurants on this stretch of Delmar and we’re excited to be a part of it. We can’t wait to collaborate and showcase all that’s happening in our district.

So let’s celebrate this moment of hopefulness for the possibilities that lie ahead and for the connections we’ll make together.

We are opening a second location! Our new space will include everything you know and love about shopping with Union Studio, plus some very exciting additions! We are delighted to announce The Lobby by Union Studio.

The Lobby by Union Studio will be a locally-owned retail shop and common room. When you visit The Lobby, you will be invited to peruse handmade goods, grab a snack, or cozy up in a window seat with a book. Combining St. Louis-made art and goods with offerings from some of our favorite local businesses, this welcoming space will invite you to shop and stay awhile.

The Lobby will be Union Studio’s second location and will be located in the between Kingshighway and Union Blvd.

After the holiday rush, our shop often feels like a totally different business. It’s slow and quiet, with plenty of time for reflection and taking our time with tasks. Here’s to embracing the change of pace.

Our beloved end of year letter gives us a chance to reflect on the last 12 months. In a lot of ways, things haven’t changed a bit. We are still so lucky to find ourselves surrounded by artists, customers and staff who generously offer us their unwavering support. Simply put, we couldn’t do this without all of you.

If you’ve been following along on our journey this year, however, you also know that some things have changed. Part of running a small business is navigating unexpected turns, some harder and bigger than others. Losing our Tower Grove location has certainly been one of the harder turns we have faced, but the outpouring of kind, encouraging, and thoughtful gestures from people who genuinely care about this business has been such a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing moment.

Our 10th holiday season has been a wonderful mix of old and new. Our shops are filled with fan favorites that people come back for year after year, as well as new work from artists who have joined our shop last month. The checkout line is filled with familiar faces, those that have followed along and rooted for us the last decade, as well as new customers who just found us while strolling down the street. Our own team is blended too. We have new staffers that see and experience our shop through fresh eyes and seasoned veterans that have been with us and rolled with the punches as each new change comes to Union Studio.

Experiencing this blend of the past and present in real time makes us grateful for where we have been and hopeful for where we will go. While we don’t know exactly what the future holds for Union Studio, we do know what it will all be okay. We still have a few tricks up our sleeves.

Thanks again for the moments we’ve shared. We’ll see you in 2024.
