Nature, A Picture Of The Promise

My spirit has been quiet this season as I study the life of Abraham and the integral part his faith played in this Advent season.

As I read about his faith, and his ability to simply receive the royal promise from God, I’m convicted by my efforts to strive and achieve some of the things the Lord has promised me. For so long, I dreamed of working and building WITH God, forgetting that there are some things God wants to do FOR me, not with me. And, my part, like Abraham’s, is to simply enter into the promise, trusting that He’ll bring it together in His WAY in His TIMING. No Ishmael’s, please!

As I meditate on this story, I love how the Lord uses nature as a picture of the promise for Abraham.

In these pieces, rich blues represent the night sky and sea, while golden splatters represent the stars in the sky and the sand on the shore. Bleeding vertical and horizontal compositions are nods to the great expanse of the galaxy and coastlines; their breadth, just like the promise, can never be fully comprehended.

May these pieces serve as a reminder that faith (trusting in God), not works, is all that’s required to fulfill the promise.

A few months ago I had a big decision before me that could shift the course of many things in my life. As I was praying about the direction I should go, I started to stress about if the opportunity was a path I should take.

During that time, I started to see 636 everywhere and knew the Lord was talking to me - I jumped into the word and was led to Judges 6:36. As I read the story of Gideon, I began to feel stress leave as I meditated on the goodness of God to confirm our call/path … remembering IVORI was birthed in a similar “fleecing” scenario.

Days later, sign after sign poured in assuring me the opportunity was an open door from The Father, demonstrating His faithfulness to me and the incredible call on my life. Repeatedly, I’m overwhelmed by the kindness of the Lord to shake anxiety off our lives, constantly confirm the greatness He’s planned for us, and lead us into our destiny.

Lately, I’ve been listening to “I Will Sing” nonstop by Sandra McCracken.

I will sing, of His great love, I will sing.”

Meditating on Ephesians 1:4 TPT has brought tremendous revelation to these lyrics.

By His very breath and word, we were joined to Him before creation.
He chose us to be a “word” before He formed the foundation of the universe.
And the power of our words come from the very fact that we started as a word.

So, I will sing of His great love for us, which existed before the foundations of the universe.

When it came to making big decisions, I’d often have restless nights and struggle with fear and anxiety around hearing or making the wrong choice. 

Meditating on Jeremiah 6:16 illuminated a framework for how to hear the heart of the Lord during times of decision making.

“Stand at the crossroads and look; 
ask for the ancient paths, 
ask where the good way is, 
and walk in it, 
and you will find rest for your souls.”

And the answers I receive, which may seem new to me, are actually the ancient paths He’s called me to walk in before the beginning of time.

This painting from The PROMISES Collection was inspired by a Brian Simmons quote about peace.

“SHALOM means much more than peace, it is wholeness, wellness, well-being, safe, happy, friendly, favor, completeness, to make peace, peace offering, secure, to prosper, to be victorious, to be content, tranquil, quiet and restful. The pictographic symbols for the word shalom (shin, lamed, vav, mem), actually reads, “destroy the authority that binds to chaos.” The noun shalom is derived from the verbal root shalam which means “to restore,” in the sense of replacing or providing what is needed in order to make someone or something whole and complete. So shalom is used to describe one who has been provided all that is needed to be whole and complete and break off all authority that would attempt to bind us to chaos.”

After reading it I was immediately inspired to paint out this promise from God. May we receive the powerful peace that destroys all chaos and brings us to completion.

Last summer I went through the most difficult season of my life as I battled with deep roots of fear and anxiety, fears regarding my faith and trusting that the path God has me on is leading me to a future.

It’s the uncommon, countercultural path of singleness, living with a parent, owning very little, and yielding my dreams to His will and timing. A path that goes against the societal grain, which can feel lonely and doesn’t paint a clear picture of what a future might look like.

Yet, in my heaviest and hardest moments, God didn’t rebuke me for a lack of faith or call me to incessant religious practices. Instead, He loving beckoned me to start painting again, a MUCH LOVED creative practice I’ve neglected over the years.

It was in the invitation to paint and journeying through the artistic process, He promised I’d creatively gain victory over fear and anxiety. So, I quietly went to work, waging war with my paintbrush.

As IVORI expands into new creative territory and I work on a larger 14-piece art collection, I wanted to share smaller pieces, individually released in REAL TIME, from my painting and prayer sessions. These paintings are the embodiment of my process to read, meditate, and visually declare the word — a way to engage with and paint out the promises, allowing them to renew my mind of His faithfulness and conquer fear with every stroke of the brush.

In this photo - that should be the next cover of Home & Garden Magazine, can I get an amen?! - she's rocking The AMANDAs, light and airy gems made with tiny baby's breath buds.

Even as a designer, I constantly have to squash overthinking, trust my instincts, and remind myself I have a natural eye for beauty. Like when it came to purchasing black vases I instantly loved (but questioned if black would be too much with flowers) or my DIY floral arrangements filled with a bunch of random picks. All of these micro-decisions help me to silence my inner critic and enjoy the process of designing. And 99% of the time, I ALWAYS love the result, like this arrangement, and I wouldn't trade these black vases for the world.
