When people consider President Donald J. Trump's remarks about America's war machine today and its responsibility for our foreign entanglements, it's worth evaluating these remarks in the context of the Farewell Address of our first President, George Washington.

George Washington Warned Against Political Infighting in His Farewell Address As he stepped down from the presidency, Washington urged Americans to always place the interests of the nation over their political and regional affiliations.
This is an interesting read.

China’s Overrated Technocrats Beijing is famous for putting engineers and scientists in charge. But that doesn’t make for better leaders.
First Communist China moved Han Chinese into Tibet to outpopulate the natives. Next it put the Uighurs in camps and send Han Chinese men to r**e Uighur women. Then it cracked down on freedom in Hong Kong. All the while it has oppressed Chinese Christians, and now it's even expecting them to replace crosses and images of Christ Himself with communist leaders' images?
When will the UN condemn this Chinese communist cult state?

We stand with Don't Bankrupt America in its quest to address America's longstanding budget deficits and ballooning debt. Americans (especially young Americans) from across the aisle must work together to confront this existential threat to our future.
"I am perfectly happy to compromise and work with anybody: Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians - I'll work with Martians if - and the if is critical - they're willing to cut spending and reduce the debt."
- Ted Cruz, American politician & Senator of Texas
Senator Ted Cruz highlights the nonpartisan (and perhaps interplanetary 😆) nature of the issue at hand. We need to come together, not as partisans or ideologues, but rather as young, passionate Americans wanting a better future for our beloved nation.

The anti-Semitic, black supremacist, "transnational" (read: dismissive of FBA/ADOS black identity) nature of the "Black Lives Matter" cartel needs to be remembered. Read this great piece from Daniel Horowitz:

Horowitz: The Black Lives Matter agenda is racist and anti-Semitic. Why are politicians embracing it? Why is this suddenly OK?
The buffoons who want to tear down Fr. Serra's statues (and in many cases have) should be arrested when they commit these crimes. No one has the authority to tear down any statue unilaterally, and especially to tear down the statue of a human rights activist like Fr. Serra because he was unapologetic in his Catholicism is ridiculous. The counterprotesters were brave to stand against this lunacy.

Ventura's anti-Serra mob held off by brave defenders When the event organizers unfurled their “Father Genocide" banner, Serra supporters had already surrounded the statue’s pedestal. Thanks to the presence of a small band of Catholics, a “Tear Down Junipero Serra” event in front of Ventura City Hall on Saturday concluded with the bronze

This is an interesting podcast on the future of American conservatism. We'd encourage you all to listen!
The "War on Poverty" was an abject failure. It chased low-income Americans out of the labor force, both depriving them of the rewards of work and shielding them from the responsibilities, all while retarding America's overall economic growth by putting a lid on labor force growth.
Let's end the War on Poverty!

Data Show That Poverty in the U.S. Was Plummeting—Until Lyndon Johnson Declared War On It | Daniel J. Mitchell The poverty rate was consistently declining for twenty years—until 1966, when President Johnson decided to intervene.
EXCERPT: "Historically, thriving cultures make it clear to each new generation that their commitments to others are important and necessary not only for their own happiness but for others’ happiness. Young people used to be explicitly taught that we all owe certain duties God and to our fellow man, and that not fulfilling these obligations is both selfish and dangerous. The heavy investments others such as parents and teachers and caretakers have made in their lives should be paid forward, rather than simply consumed.
The continued withdrawal from commitments to God and others portends ill, not just for the young people who have not been properly taught, but also for the culturally impoverished society they will one day inherit without the capacity or the moral sense to steward it well."

Poll: Young Americans Care More About Money Than Making A Family Significantly more Americans ages 13 to 22 say it's important to buy a home and make 'a lot of money' than to marry, have children, and commit to a faith.
Former Rep. Richard Boucher (D-VA-9) makes a solid point about television access for rural communities. In rural areas, television plays an outsize role in disseminating information, and during this crisis, information is critical. However, Congress did not renew a legal provision that allows satellite TV providers (like DirecTV) to bring out-of-market TV signals to areas where they otherwise can't reach. Renewing this provision would be a pro-liberty, cost-free way to help rural Americans receive televised updates about the coronavirus and related regulations. Though from an unlikely source, this seems like a conservative solution to a problem caused by big-government regulation.

Congress punished rural TV viewers, and we will pay the price during the pandemic - Roll Call Opinion — Thousands of rural Americans could soon lose access to network TV, leaving their households blind, right when we need to see what is going on.
The last three elections of WHO Directors have been progressively more influenced by the Chinese Communist Party. In 2006, President Bush was weakened a few days after a horrible midterm rebuke; in 2011, President Obama was similarly chastened and distracted. By 2017, newly-elected President Trump wasn't ready to pay attention to that, as he was still settling into office. However, none of them can be entirely absolved of responsibility, as the WHO, which is now in the pocket of the CCP, has clearly failed in its response to the coronavirus and has aided China's misinformation campaign about it. More broadly, successive administrations' (Clinton, Bush, Obama, and even early Trump) allowance of China to enter the WTO, to select the heads of various UN affiliates, and to take global leadership roles, on the assumption that wealth and influence would moderate China's adversarial nationalism has failed miserably. We hope that the United States, in addition to a temporary defunding of the WHO, takes greater steps to reassert its interests and the interests of its allies, in the future.

How Bush and Obama ceded the World Health Organization to China, increasing the risk of pandemics like coronavirus Trump is halting U.S. funding of WHO after previous administrations' "benign neglect" policy allowed Beijing to mislead the organization, with deadly consequences.
From Williamson Evers:
"By Richard A. Epstein EXCERPT [I]t’s worth taking a closer look at the unsound ideas of progressive constitutionalism that have long been part of [Vice President Joe Biden's] legal thinking. Biden’s current political stances are far to the left of his positions as Barack Obama’s running mate in the 2008 Presidential election. But even in 1991, as head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Biden took issue with the basic values of classical liberalism as they apply to constitutional law. During the confirmation hearings for then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, he thrust a copy of my book "Takings" in front of Thomas, claiming that it was an unprincipled and radical manifesto.
In those years, Biden used his perch on the Senate Judiciary Committee as a bully pulpit to attack conservative nominees. ... [W]hen Thomas appeared before the judiciary committee, Biden asked him if he accepted any of the principles in "Takings," which argued for extensive protections for private property. Thomas responded that the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution—“nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation”—did protect private property."
Joe Biden’s Constitutionalism His progressive values blind him to the importance of property rights.
We applaud our friends at the California Review for discussing the legitimacy of Chinese government and taking the side of the Republic of China. This issue deserves lively discussion, especially after the People's Republic of China's demonstration of extreme irresponsibility regarding the coronavirus that originated in Wuhan late last year. Taken in the context of China's manifest human rights abuses over the past seventy years and its unfair trade practices, intellectual property theft, and aggressive territorial expansionism over the past twenty years, the Chinese government's response to the coronavirus is unacceptable, and it's high time that the regime be held accountable for its crimes. While removing official recognition of the PRC would be an extreme step, it may be time to recognize Taiwan and Taiwan alone.

[Opinion] US Must Take Steps to Recognize Taiwan - The California Review It is difficult to imagine a nation more inimical to American values than the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
