Thank you to Dcn. Tom and Brother Knight Chris for leading the Silver Rose prayer service! It was a blessing to pray the Holy Rosary together and venerate a cherished symbol of our faith.
Join us this Sunday, October 22nd, at 2 pm in the nave of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for a Silver Rose prayer service led by Dcn. Tom Cabeen and Council 5266.
A Brief History of the Silver Rose
Our Lady of Guadalupe did so much for her people in Mexico that, in 1960, the Columbian Squires, a youth organization of the Knights of Columbus, wanted to give something back to her. The group of young men in KofC Council 2312 in Monterrey, Mexico, came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego & the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The first rose was a natural rose & was blessed by Bishop Cody of London. It traveled to New York, Dallas & Laredo, Texas, & returned to Monterrey, Mexico. The rose traveled through Sabinas Hidalgo N.L., Mexico, to the Basilica in Monterrey, Mexico, on December 12, 1960.
The Squires were so enthused by the success they wanted to invite others worldwide to participate. They called on Texas & Ontario to join them. After a year, the first rose had decomposed, so a group made a bronze rose. When the Squires in Monterrey heard of the bronze rose, they decided to make a silver rose because it is a precious metal in Mexico.
The first Silver Rose was blessed by Bishop Silva & sent to New Haven, CT. Both the Bronze & Silver Roses were so admired by Archbishop Spellman of New York that he kept them for a special Mass before they were flown to Texas & turned over to brother Knights at the International Bridge.
After 1961, the Knights of Texas & Mexico continued the program until the mid-1990s, then adopted it as a KofC Supreme Council program. In 2001, the program was expanded further.
Today, 8 roses run along different North American routes, including Canada, every U.S. state, Puerto Rico, D.C., & Mexico. This tradition spreads devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe & embodies international brotherhood.

Happy Father's Day Brothers! Vivat Jesus!
Happy Father’s Day to our brother Knights who serve the Lord and their families through their fatherhood—like St. Joseph!
“Fathers are not born, but made. A man does not become a father simply by bringing a child into the world, but by taking up the responsibility to care for that child. Whenever a man accepts responsibility for the life of another, he becomes a father to that person.” – Pope Francis
