The Oklahoma Quality Beef Network (OQBN) is a network of beef producers, educators, veterinarians, and industry professionals committed to increasing producers' access to value added marketing opportunities and improving the quality of cattle produced in Oklahoma. It provides producers, and others in the industry, with education and tools to enhance access to value-added programs. In this webinar, Paul Vining will discuss components of OQBN. Producers, lenders, and policy-makers seeking to gain insight into the rural agricultural economy and make more informed decisions will be interested in attending the 2024 Rural Economic Outlook Conference, Wednesday, October 16 at the Conoco Phillips OSU Alumni Center in Stillwater. This annual one day conference features outside keynote speakers plus OSU faculty. Kenny Burdine, Extension Professor in Livestock Economics at the University of Kentucky is a featured keynote speaker providing an update on Livestock Risk Protection Insurance for Feeder Cattle.

Another featured keynote speaker, Randy Daniels, Chief Risk Officer at Triangle Insurance will discuss the Impact of the Agricultural Insurance Market on the Ag Industry.

Participants also have an opportunity to hear from OSU experts about departmental research, value-added enterprises, and updates on the livestock market as well as faculty views on Ag finance and grain markets.

The registration fee is $50 and includes breakfast, lunch, and breaks.

Direct to Consumer Meat - OSU Extension Online Course Catalog 08/22/2024

A new, online direct to consumer meat course is now available.

Participants will learn about topics including: Business plans and marketing considerations, Meat processing, Understanding custom exempt slaughter, Understanding state, federal, and TA inspection, and Regulations specific to poultry.

The course costs $20 and is self-paced.

Funding to improve your natural resources: The USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) has offices in every county in the U.S., providing landowners, farmers and ranchers technical assistance and cost share funds to protect and improve the natural resources of their land. Practices that address soil erosion, surface and ground water quality, improve habitat for pollinators and wildlife, and address crop health through pest management, crop rotations or legume plantings are examples of areas where this agency can help enhance your land’s ecosystem and productivity. The practices that are important to use with organic production, will be highlighted.

Here is a description of what you will learn: This session will provide information to cattle producers on how to manage heifers/cows during the birthing process. Also, participants will get hands-on training on how to deal with difficult births using the Hereford Dystocia Simulator.
