Surviving & Thriving: A Journey of Healing
As a trauma and two-time su***de attempt survivor, I understand the importance of protecting my peace. Tackling one trigger often reveals new ones, but managing these emotions is crucial to avoid hurting others. Trauma bonding can be a risk, making it essential to set boundaries and heal continually.
I’m currently in a trauma-informed program, vital for my role as a community leader working with trauma survivors. Surviving isn’t a one-time event; it’s a continuous battle against old and new triggers. It’s about viewing life through a healed lens, understanding our capacity, and adapting as life changes.
Trauma doesn’t excuse hurting others. Sharing our traumas offers insight into who we are but doesn’t give us a free pass to harm. I constantly reevaluate and fight internal battles, knowing it’s my trauma, not the person, causing pain.
Healing is ongoing, but being intentional in this journey helps me make better decisions, create boundaries, and remove disruptions to my peace. I find peace in who I am, traumas and all.
Here’s to becoming a certified trauma-informed specialist and the best version of myself, for my community and me.
With love and resilience,
Lakeisha Little-Shaw

MINDFULNESS MONDAY ❤️
It is crucial to establish and maintain boundaries to protect one’s mental and emotional well-being. Allowing individuals to elicit emotions or reactions that mirror those experienced during past traumas can hinder the healing process and potentially re-traumatize. It is essential to recognize and assert one’s right to avoid interactions that could evoke such harmful memories or feelings. By doing so, individuals can foster a safe environment conducive to ongoing recovery and personal growth.
Tomorrow marks our 7th Wellness Hike with 209 Hikes ( Official Wellness Hike - Hidden Falls ), and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Community is at the heart of everything I do, and I’m dedicated to prioritizing the health and well-being of every individual. That’s why I created SHAW 4 Community and our programs like 209 Hikes.
Inclusivity and diversity are non-negotiables in all our initiatives. We ensure that every space is safe, positive, and welcoming for everyone. Too often, environments segregate and divide, but at SHAW 4 Community, we break those barriers. Every event and program we host truly represents the community, bringing together people of all statuses, races, and backgrounds.
When you join 209 Hikes or any SHAW 4 Community event, you witness true unity and togetherness. We are committed to making everything accessible and available to ALL. Let’s continue to stand together, break barriers, and create spaces where everyone belongs. 🌍❤️

Men’s Health Awareness Month: Breaking the Stigma
June is Men’s Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on the often overlooked health and mental health challenges faced by men. At SHAW 4 Community, we recognize the critical importance of men’s health and are committed to creating safe, supportive spaces for men to thrive.
Breaking the Stigma
For too long, the health and mental well-being of men have been shrouded in stigma. Society often expects men to be stoic, strong, and silent about their struggles. This can lead to serious consequences, including untreated physical conditions and mental health issues. It’s time to change the narrative and acknowledge that men, too, need support, care, and understanding.
Understanding Men’s Health
Here are some important facts about men’s health:
• Physical Health: Men are at higher risk for conditions like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Regular check-ups and a healthy lifestyle are crucial.
• Mental Health: Depression and su***de rates are significantly higher in men, with men being less likely to seek help. This highlights the need for open conversations and accessible mental health resources.
• Preventive Care: Men are less likely to visit doctors for preventive care, leading to later diagnoses of serious conditions. Encouraging regular medical visits is essential for early detection and treatment.
Our Commitment
At SHAW 4 Community, we understand that men are valued and needed in our society. We are dedicated to supporting men’s health by:
• Creating safe spaces for open discussions about health and mental well-being.
• Providing resources and support for men to seek help without judgment.
• Promoting a balanced approach to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
Join Us for a Men’s Health Awareness Hike
To promote men’s health and foster community support, we are hosting a Men’s Health Awareness Hike with 209 HIKES on June 30 at Knights Ferry. This hike is an opportunity for men to connect, share experiences, and support one another in a healthy, active environment.
Let’s come together to break the stigma and support the health and well-being of all men. Join us on June 23 to take a step towards better health and a stronger community.
