Graduate students interested in running for a position on the GSO Executive Council (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) must have attended at least two senate meetings during the 2022-2023 academic year before elections begin. This requirement can be satisfied by attending a virtual (Zoom) informational meeting on March 29, 2023 at 1PM, and then the April 5th Senate meeting if you have not already attended 2 senate meetings. Our April 5th Senate meeting begins at 5:30 PM in SAC 305.
The Graduate Student Organization is collaborating with the Student Support Team to make the May 2023 commencement regalia accessible for those in need and facing financial hardship. We know sometimes paying for regalia is a barrier to participating in commencement and we hope to provide the opportunity for all students to be able to attend their graduation ceremony. We understand that these are trying times, so we want to give all graduates the opportunity to celebrate their achievements at graduation. We look forward to your applications and seeing you at commencement!
Please note funds are limited, so please only apply if you will be unable to attend Commencement without the support of the Commencement Regalia Loaner Program. We want to ensure that our students who are truly facing financial hardship will have the opportunity to attend their graduation ceremony.
The Graduate Student Organization invites you to participate in our Food Drive to replenish the Stony Brook Food Pantry. From Monday February 20th to Friday 24th we will set up donation boxes at diverse locations around campus. All hygiene items and non-perishables are welcome and can be deposited at the following locations:
- Union Building
- Admin Building
- Social and Behavioral Sciences Building
The Food Pantry is a great resource for all students on campus. Many graduate students rely on the food pantry, help us support them! If you have any questions contact me at [email protected]
Join us in February 16th for the GSO Meet & Greet! We are so excited to meet our fellow Seawolves!

Black In Neuro is an international non-profit organization that aims to diversify the neurosciences by building a community that celebrates and empowers Black scholars and professionals in neuroscience-related fields.
Our annual Black In Neuro Week is a FREE, virtual conference occurring at the end of July each year. This year's events include an Australian-based keynote speaker, a journal club, one-on-one chats with HBCU graduates, and panels on neuroscience careers beyond academia!
Our events are open to the public and we encourage all undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, faculty, and community members interested in neuroscience to register (even if they don't identify as Black). It's a great way to support research being conducted by Black scientists, learn about issues faced by Black and other marginalized communities, and grow your own network. Follow for more details.

We will be holding our first official RA Union Happy Hour and we would love to see you there! As an RA Union member, you get a free drink. The Happy Hour will be on campus at the Northern Coast Kitchen in the Hilton Garden Inn (across from the admin building parking garage). Come and join us on July 21st from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Members get a free drink, but bring your unsigned friends and they can sign up to get a drink as well! To get a better idea of attendance, we’ve attached a QR code for you to RSVP.
We also have a survey to assess the needs of all Research Assistants at Stony Brook University. This will serve as a guiding post for our negotiations with SUNY RF. We highly encourage you to fill this out, so that we can win a strong contract next year.
