Yesterday afternoon, over 30 GSEU members walked a petition of over 700 signatures up to President Tripathi's office. We have the support, we make the demands - $22k for all, Fee Waivers for all, no exceptions!

Thank you to all of you who came out to the Stony Brook Labor Council's Rally for Respect and Fair Wages! We made it clear that after the wage increases we received this week we will continue our campaign until we truly recieve a living wage. Solidarity to our fellow unionists who attended yesterday @ Stony Brook University

Due to unforseen circumstances GSEU has mutually agreed with admin to move our meeting discussing a living wage for grad workers to the week after Thanksgiving. We will continue to keep our mbers updated.

Also, a reminder our final happy hour of the semester is this Friday from 5-9 @ the Velvet Lounge.

Reminder that our Labor Council rally is this Wednesday @ 12 PM at the fountain. We will also have shirt pick-up/banner making from 10:30-12 before the rally in Harriman 214 with donuts and coffee!

Stony Brook administration promises to announce wage increase for graduate workers after threats to boycott symposium – The Statesman The Stony Brook administration has promised to announce a wage increase on Nov. 19 for graduate student workers in response to the Graduate Student Employee Union’s (GSEU) Living Wage Campaign that has gained campus-wide support.

GSEU supports the YDSA petition against TPUSA achieving status of an official club at SBU.

TPUSA posits a danger to academic free speech by targeting left-leaning instructors on a watchlist. This is a practice that has resulted in the harassment of instructors in the past and may put our members in danger. TPUSA’s activities has also proven to be dangerous to campus communities, and have connections with violent actions in the past which represents a workplace safety issue. Furthermore TPUSA's organizing against the vaccine mandate and Covid protections has the possibility of putting the health of our community in jeopardy. GSEU is committed to protecting our members and our community as a whole and we support YDSA’s position against TPUSA becoming an official SBU organization. We stand with other organizations who signed this petition on their efforts to create a safe and equitable campus for all.

BREAKING NEWS: Binghamton University released the following statement regarding graduate student fees!

We are looking forward to hearing more about these plans the university is exploring to relieve this burden on graduate student employees!

"We are currently examining how Binghamton University can provide scholarships covering student fees to fully funded, full-time Ph.D. students.
Fees cannot simply be waived as they support critical services to all students on our campus, including transportation, health services, technology, and others.
So we must identify a funding model that will allow us to pay the fees Ph.D. students incur.
That is complicated as the vast majority of funding for stipends and tuition scholarships is in college and school budgets.
We are currently exploring a range of options and expect to have a plan in place by the end of the semester."

The membership and executive board of UUP SBU have officially endorsed our Living Wage Campaign petition and our demands for admin to bargain with the GSEU on a living wage. This is solidarity!
