University Doctoral Consortium Medieval Graduate Student Conference on Friday, April 19 2024 at Stony Brook University. This will bring together scholars--faculty, MA and PhD students--from across the NY area, including Stony Brook University, NYU, Rutgers, Columbia, Princeton, Fordham, and CUNY, for a day of intellectual exchange and conversations. A light breakfast, lunch, and a reception will also be provided for all attendees.

Spring Poetry Reading 2024 was a huge success! Students shared their poems in Spanish and were treated to the musical stylings of Kelsey Vasquez and her guitar. Afterwards students and faculty were treated to a wonderful lunch, courtesy of the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature. Excellent job to all the poets! Thank you to all those that attended.

Beatriz "Bea" Solla Vilas wins the 2024 President's Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching! Bea is currently a fourth-year Ph.D candidate in Hispanic Languages and Literature, specializing in contemporary Latin American trans self-narrative. Originally from the coastal region of Galicia, Spain, Bea is passionate about education, and they view teaching as a powerful tool to help others understand and engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Congratulations on this award and recognition of your superb graduate student teaching, dear Bea!

¡Continuamos manteniendo viva la presencia de la cultura gallega en nuestro departamento!

Aprovechando que ayer fue del cumpleaños de Rosalía de Castro, hoy recordamos el evento de la semana pasada 'Galician Encounter: Music, Lyrics and Tradition'. El evento consistió en una charla sobre la tradición musical gallega y su relación intrínseca con la poesía. Nuestra invitada, Alejandra Medín Doce, nos explicó cómo la música y la poesía se entrelazan en la tradición gallega, creando una expresión artística y estética única. Además, tuvimos la suerte de poder escuchar en vivo, al clarinete, interpretaciones de piezas musicales representativas de la tradición gallega, y lectura de los poemas originales. ¡Gracias, Alejandra!
