Tonight we attended the annual Firemen Banquet. We had one Years of Service award, for 25 years. Carrie Lemke was the recipient of this honor. Our Officers remained the same as last year, consisting of Carrie as Captain, Missy as Lieutenant, Camie as President, Tammy as Vice President and Steph as Secretary/Treasurer.

Very little change to the updated severe weather outlook from the NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center . Nearly all of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas included in an Enhanced Risk for severe weather today. Most of the storm activity will start in the evening, and become more widespread after dark.

Congrats to our champs this year… Defending champions took the title again this year. Ryan Butler & Ben Burris. Second place this year went to Kyle Mundorf & Andrew Mundorf.

🚨The pool will be closed tonight for training.

Tonight we will train alongside EMTs and our Fire Department staff to practice drills in case of water-bound emergency. We are thankful to have these resources as well as thank the public for allowing us to take these opportunities.

Due to weather coming in tonight and for the safety of everyone, the Superior Volunteer Fire Department has made the hard decision to postpone the firework display until tomorrow night. Please pass the word around to everyone! Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but we want everyone to be safe!! See you guys tomorrow night!!

🚑 National EMS Week is May 21st - 27th 🚑

Please join some of our EMTs after the Vestey parade Saturday, from 11:00-12:30 at Fire Station for tours of our current “Mod 1” ambulance. We will be explaining what we do in the ambulance and demonstrating some of our equipment!

This morning a couple members acted as “bus drivers” for the walking school bus. They walked with a group of elementary students, a couple parents and a very happy dog from the City park to the school. From what I heard the “bus drives” had to go a little fast as some of the riders where excited to get to school this morning. But I sure looks like from the smiles on all the faces they had a great time! Thank you Chelsea and Lyndsay for helping out today!

On April 22, we attended the Superior Fireman’s Annual Banquet at the VFW club. We got to watch as one of our new EMTs, Ben Furman got awarded rookie of the year from the fire department and Matt Meyer was awarded fireman of the year! So proud and happy for the both of them. We then got the honor of awarding Tammy Gehle, 5 years on our squad. She has been a First Responder/EMT since 1995 and also serves for Ruskin and Byron. We also handed out our new badges to the 2023 officers. Camie Kroger as President, Tammy Gehle as Vice President, TJ Sibert as Secretary/Treasurer, Carrie Lemke as Captain and Missy Nielsen as Lieutenant. We tried to get a photo of all the new members and as a squad but had several missing due to previous obligations. We all had a great time and a lot of laughs.

Today is Day 3 of Nebraska’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, which runs through Friday. Today’s topic is tornadoes. A tornado is a narrow, violently rotating column of air that extends from the base of a thunderstorm to the ground and is the most violent of all atmospheric storms. Do you know the difference between a tornado rated an EF0 and one rated an EF5? ❄️ Wanted to share this info again as they’re calling for potentially several inches of that “s” word overnight tonight and tomorrow…

☃️ Be sure to check your vents and clear any snow or ice away from them periodically.

🚒👨‍🚒 Also, it is super helpful when clearing your sidewalks to clear a path to and at least 3 feet around any fire hydrants on your property. This is a great time saver for our Superior Volunteer Fire Department personnel and every minute counts when it comes to putting out fires! 🔥

🥶With the crazy temperatures we are supposed to have please check your furnace vents.
❄️Even with no snow they can freeze up with little ice crystals covering them. Usually just a quick wipe will clear it. These are pictures of ice crystals starting to form on the vent.
⚠️Also make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector in your house and have checked the batteries in all your smoke detectors. 🔋

We are watching satellite imagery today for "Hot Spots", which indicate possible wildfires. Notice the black and yellow pixels near Bostwick in Nuckolls County between Superior and Guide Rock. This is a "Hot Spot" and confirmed large fire. Red Flag Warnings in effect today! Time of Image: 1:17 PM CDT Sunday October 23, 2022.

There is currently an active grass fire north and west of town. Please stay out of the way of fire departments, EMS personnel and avoid the area.

It was a great night for corn hole. We had beautiful weather, an awesome turnout, and a lot of positive feedback for next year.
