August is Nations Breastfeeding Month & holds a very special place in our hearts. As you’ve grown along your own breastfeeding journey, we're sure it holds a special place in yours, too. Here’s to all the moms growing and learning right alongside their little ones as they give their love, patience, and the full bellies they need to thrive.
Special thank you to Reba ‘Lovell’ Harrist for loving on our OB nurses from a far today! Reba was a travel nurse on OB at RPMH for quite sometime, she was recently married and moved home to Tennessee soon after finishing her last contract with us! These sweet care packages she sent just made our day. So proud we’ve created an environment on this unit where even our agency nurses who’ve come and gone still think of us and go out of there way to send some love our direction! Speaks such volumes for these amazing nurses!! Reba, you have a heart of gold and we appreciate you thinking of us!! 💕💕💕
New reserved parking spot for our Momma’s being discharged home with their new bundle of joy! It’s the little things that make RPMH so great. Thanks so much to the ER & Loran Hendrix for donating us a spot, Russ Petty at CGS for making our awesome custom sign, and our fantastic maintenance department for making a special trip to buy pink paint, their patience with our giant stork stencil, and their willingness to work so hard in this heat to bring our parking spot vision to life!!
🎉🎉🎉
Beyond proud of this unbelievable team. This wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic Nurses and Physicians behind the scenes. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Did you know that June is National Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Awareness Month!?
What better month to announce we are now offering newborn CMV testing after birth at RPMH!! 🎉🎉🎉
CMV is the most common infectious cause of congenital disabilities, according to the CDC. Babies born with CMV can have brain, liver, spleen, lung, and growth problems. The most common long-term health problem in babies born with CMV infection is hearing loss. This may be detected soon after birth or may develop later in childhood.

MARCH IS PREGNANCY AFTER LOSS AWARENESS MONTH
In the United States, 1 out of every 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage and 1 and every 160 pregnancies end in stillbirth.😔
In the world of pregnancy after loss there is a story of hope about a precious new life, and it’s the story of the rainbow baby. 🌈
A rainbow baby is a name coined for a healthy baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The name “rainbow baby” comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing in the sky after a storm, or after a dark and turbulent time, and has come to symbolize hope and healing. 🙏🏻❤️🩹
Thankful for all of the angel babies, 👼🏾 and rainbow babies 🌈 we’ve been blessed to care for at RPMH.
Providing compassionate care for grieving families is essential for hospitals. When loss occurs on an obstetrical unit whether expected or unexpected, the gift of offering time can help to facilitate the transition from the anticipation of parenthood to the death of a baby. This invaluable time together can allow families to form a bond with their baby, even if only for a short time, and can aid them in coping with their loss. By providing a peaceful and respectful environment and additional time with baby, the CuddleCot system can help families during this difficult time. In a warm room, the baby’s condition can deteriorate quickly, which parents often find distressing. Therefore, cooling the baby is absolutely essential, but many parents do not want the trauma of being separated from their baby while they are placed into a morgue refrigerator to cool. The CuddleCot cooling unit slows the natural changes and allows bereaved parents more time with their sleeping babe at beside following a stillbirth or infant loss for up to 72 hours after birth. This gives parents time to keep their precious one at the bedside for photos, bathing, or something as simple as changing a diaper or dressing their baby, giving grieving families more time to say goodbye and create precious memories that will last a lifetime. Ashlie's Embrace provides cooling units to medical facilities across the U.S. to help support families experiencing stillbirth or infant loss. We are proud to announce the Obstetrical unit at RPMH was recently gifted a CuddleCot donated by Ashlie's Embrace, significantly improving the bereavement services we have available for Parents suffering an infant loss. Our unit is humbled, and greatly appreciative to Ashlie's Embrace for this gift, and are so thankful to finally have this option to offer at our facility for potential grieving parents.
