Attention, SCSD Families: Please be reminded that all SCSD schools will be CLOSED for students on Monday, April 8, 2024.

This is a change from the original calendar! Staff are expected to report to work on a half day (morning) schedule that day.

Please note that this does not impact the existing academic calendar; which means there will also be NO SCHOOL for students on Wednesday, April 10th (Staff Attendance Day); and this does not impact the remaining Contingency Weather Days!

02/29/2024

Due to inclement weather, there will be no school in the Syracuse City School District today, Thursday February 29, 2024. Be safe!

Attention, SCSD Families: The winter weather will be here before we know it… and that means there could be school delays or closings as a result!

When the SCSD schedule is impacted by weather, we post announcements on the SCSD website and social media channels. We also send notifications to local TV and radio stations - and communicate directly with families and staff via School Messenger robo calls. See below for some steps you can take to make sure you don't miss important announcements!

"Marching Band allows me to have new experiences and see that I can do different things with the clarinet other than just concert band,” Henninger High School senior Ja’Niyah Lacey, who has been playing clarinet and bass clarinet since 4th grade, said. “I’m proud to know that this is the start of something that could really grow to be something bigger in the future!”

Thanks to a unique opportunity, about a dozen SCSD middle and high school students came together to form the District’s first-ever marching band. SCSD high schools including PSLA at Fowler High School and Henninger have offered ‘parade bands’ through the years – together marching in local parades. But as a marching band, the possibilities open for the students to perform on-field routines, as well as compete in a state championship each fall. We’re proud to have so many who are now committed employees of the SCSD – like Michael Puntschenko! Mr. Puntschenko has worked for the SCSD for 29 years – currently serving as Chief Financial Officer after serving as the Director of Special Programs for 20 years. He attended Bellevue Elementary School and Shea as a child, before graduating from Corcoran High School in 1988.

“My favorite part of my job is when I see that the work I am involved in is making a difference in the educational experience of our students and families, while improving the work experience of our staff,” he said. “I am proud to be a Corcoran graduate and enjoyed my experiences as a student. Working for the SCSD has provided me with the opportunity to ensure that our students can graduate feeling the same way.”
