Today Rise above poverty was present at Delaware primary School on Geddes Street in Syracuse. The event was ripe with information as a few dozen vendors chose to facilitate the community based event. There was food, organizations that helped abused children, food pantries, girl scouts, the 100 black men of Syracuse and a myriad of other organizations that provide "help" for children and adults. Rise above poverty was well received as we stood representing the core part of the organization that facilitates the needs of the youth in the Syracuse City school district as well as the other arms of the organization that facilitate the needs of our youth. The Reading Clinic and Battle Ready Men and what these arms of RAP do were represented at our table. The name rise above poverty was well known. Very well known. The Reading Clinic and Battle ready men were also known by many of the organizations and the parents in attendance. The event was successful, it was inviting and socially fluid. Attendees representing RAP were Tashika Lewis, Mrs. Melissa Card and Raymond Card. The event was quite successful.

Upstate Volunteer Emily and the kids. The relationships and the results are real.
The Reading Clinic was bustling with activity today! We welcomed 12 students who were excited to enhance their reading proficiency and 10 volunteers who generously donated their time and effort. The day flew by as we engaged in a variety of interactive literacy activities, including reading aloud, grammar lessons, and vocabulary quizzes. Despite the frenetic pace, everyone had an enriching and enjoyable experience.

The Spring Session of the RAP Reading Clinic kicked of this Tuesday. We had our newest volunteer Kristen (Med student from Upstate) lead the reading charge as our newest "Royal Reader". Our returning student Charden is now titled the "Duke of Poetry". Yes, the children are still our Royalty. However, we have streamlined thier direction to maximize their creativity. We will have a Duke or Duchess of poetry at each session who will maximize the penchant for prose.

Last night in Kidz Club the kids are learning how to make a prayer sandwich 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 using the A.C.T.S. Way.
The outer piece is greeting God - our Father in Heaven.
The first inner piece is - A for Adoration. To adore God for who He is. Many of the kids adore God for His love, and His kindness and few adore Him for Him being omniscient (all-knowing).
The other outer piece is to ask or close our prayer in Jesus' name.

To our cherished community at Rise Above Poverty, you have played an essential role in our community. Today, I reach out to you with an opportunity to directly impact the lives of young individuals in our community through transportation.
We envision a future where every child can access our three crucial Youth Initiatives.
The Rise Above Poverty's Reading Clinic is a free tutoring program for students in second through sixth grade, our mentoring programs: Battle Ready Men for boys and Little Ladies of Promise girls programs. However, transportation barriers prevent many children from participating fully, missing out on invaluable opportunities for growth and development.
To tackle these challenges, we're launching a transportation appeal to raise $50,000 for a passenger van. Your generous support will bridge the gap and ensure no child is left behind due to transportation limitations.
Your contribution will directly help children to break free from the cycle of poverty.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference.
Here's how you can Help us Help others:
Mail a check to Rise Above Poverty, 600 West Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13204.

Thank you for considering our appeal. Together, we can drive positive change and create a brighter future for our community.
With gratitude,

The Syracuse City School District had some of the lowest proficiency levels in both ELA and math. Just 20% of the district’s students were proficient or better in ELA last year, ranking Syracuse No. 644 statewide out of 661 districts
NY school districts ranked from 1 to 661 based on new test scores in math, ELA The state Education Department released math and English language arts test scores earlier in December.
Today we had one of our children read to the group openly for the first time. This courageous act was indicative of what we do as we transition our participating children to a fear less stage of challenging the act of reading. We know they can do it. We teach them how to do it. We read to succeed.
Future Dr. N Johnson leads "Ronald" on a electronic learning device. Ronald learns that Chrome-books are tools for learning. The simplest of things and moments can be vital tools for learning. We teach kids to read to succeed.
The Rise Above Poverty reading clinic had another awesome night. Our committed volunteers led our children in script reading. The children had an awesome time as they are led to "act" the parts. They are effortlessly increasing their vocabulary and comprehension while reading the assigned "part" from the short scripts.
The featured "Royal Reader" Dr. Lianne , presents the story of "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs" to our children. One young man who has recently developed great confidence from his participation in the program has self volunteered to unwaveringly lend assistance to Dr. Lianne's presentation. Young master Charden is the Royal Readers assistant. We do things to make the children proud of the simplest accomplishment. Read to succeed.
Today marks our second week at the RAP reading clinic. We welcome new children and returning volunteers from SUNY Upstate and Syracuse University. We are a clinic and clinics heal. Surely there is healing to be found as we reach our children in love to gently coax them to do those things that are beneficial for life. Our children are treasure. Their value is beyond measure. We read to succeed.
Syracuse has 13% proficiency rate for third graders for Reading on grade level.

Today we started the Reading clinic summer session. We did something unusual but extremely rewarding and clearly educational. We made a "Trifle Cake". Ms Linda Adams led the workshop that included reading clinic students and volunteers. The "teams" had to follow specific instructions, a recipe, to complete thier portion of the cake preperation. They worked cohesively as they prepared the cake. After all the measuring, whipping, breaking, cutting and layering, the trifle cake was completed. It was surprisingly, very, very delicious. Special thanks to Ms. Linda Adams. She is an awesome lady. Next week the kids make another surprise meal
