For those yearning to become moms, for those with painful or complicated relationships with their mom, for those mourning a mom, for the mom doing it alone, for the mom with a painful or complicated relationship with their child, and moms mourning their child, for those who stand in as mamas, for first time moms, for teachers who love their students as their own children, for bonus and step mamas, for trans mamas, for mamas of furbabies, for anyone who could use a hug, today is lovely and complicated. Sending you love.
The times they are a-changin’
May the powerful, fiery energy of the total solar eclipse bring courage to release that which is not for us, to make room for what is. “The universe doesn’t always give you what you want, but it does give you what you need for your soul’s growth.”

As we dive into our season, we will post weekly sneak peeks at how our concert comes together.
What is happening here?! You may be surprised to know that our songs always sound this messy at first and that’s totally ok! It’s actually refreshing to be reminded that it’s ok to be messy and imperfect, and that there is redemption in repeated effort.
By focusing on mastering the syncopated rhythms first, we develop a strong sense of groove and cohesion within the group. This foundation of rhythmic precision will then make it easier for us to learn the notes and lyrics accurately. It’s like building a strong rhythmic backbone that supports the melody and lyrics of the music!
We hope you’ll follow along this season to catch a glimpse into our creative process, teamwork, and dedication to pulling off a concert we’re all proud to share with you.
Happy Trans Day of Visibility. We sincerely hope that as you follow along, you see that there is a place for you at our table.
Our charming Mr Grinch, may your three decker toadstool and sauerkraut sandwich always be topped with the most delicious arsenic sauce 🎄🥪🍯
Many thanks to those who supported our chorus this year. We hope to have brought you joy, and eased the sorrow that sometimes comes with the holiday season.
“That first breath that a choir or orchestra takes together, a breath filled with focus, intention and emotion, a breath unified for no other reason than to make something beautiful together... that is the reason we do what we do.” -Eric Whitacre
A candle is a small thing. But one candle can light another. And see how its own light increases, as a candle gives its flame to the other. You are such a light.
-Moshe Davis
Practicing in circle formation is important because it allows for better communication and interaction among members. Additionally, rehearsing in a circle helps with the projection of sound. When we face each other, we can hear and blend their voices more effectively, creating a balanced and harmonious sound, making it easier to listen and respond to each other’s voices. This fosters a sense of unity and teamwork within the chorus.
This season can be as painful as it is joyous. Wishing you peace and comfort as you navigate the complexities of the holidays.
We are so lucky to have had our dear pianist, Barb with us for more than 5 years. She has a gentle way of guiding us musically and mostly puts up with our shenanigans in rehearsals. She is as much a part of our chorus family as any of us and we are so grateful for her presence.
May you reflect on your blessings and allow your spirit to become a child again this holiday season
Please join the Syracuse Gay and Le***an Chorus in celebrating some of the many wintertime and holiday traditions celebrated with candles, stars, twinkle lights, and the moon above. There will be joyous renditions of popular holiday favorites, a capella harmonies of traditional folk songs, and maybe even a sing along!
Individual members of SGLC will take to the stage with some cabaret numbers before intermission, and in-person attendees can participate in the famed holiday raffle. So come and celebrate a turn toward longer days with our celebration of lights.

When we perform a song in another language, it’s important to spend time on pronunciation, first and foremost because it ensures that the audience can understand the lyrics and the message the song is conveying. Most importantly, correct pronunciation adds authenticity to the performance and shows respect for the culture and language the song originates from.
This is your Sunday Scaries reminder that you can handle whatever this week throws at you.
We are so grateful for our director Brian, for his obvious love of music, his creativity in helping us become better musicians regardless of our musical starting point, and his genuine care for us as a group. 🫶🏻
Syracuse had its first taste of snow this past week! As the weather grows colder and the trees let go of that which is no longer meant for them, may you be reminded that not every season is meant for growth. It’s ok to rest.
Several times a season, our rehearsals are divided into smaller groups called Sectional Rehearsals. These rehearsals are more intimate, enabling the chorus to focus on specific sections’ needs and challenges without neglecting others. This helps streamline the learning process and ensures that everyone is on the same page when we come together as a full chorus.
We hope the extra light of the Hunter Moon encourages you to release all that is not in alignment with your purpose. 🌕✨
Did you know?? The purpose of chorus warmups is to prepare the voice and body for singing. Warmups can include exercises for vocalizing, breathing, posture, and relaxation. They help to increase vocal range, flexibility, and control, as well as improve breath support and overall vocal health. 🌈
We hope the steady rain encourages you to slow your pace today in preparation for the week ahead. Happy Sunday, friends!
