Tacoma Area Restaurant Worker Survey
Hi all,
Things have been hard for a while and right now we’re all worried that things are about to get harder.
In the midst of this ongoing crisis, a group of restaurant workers in Tacoma/Pierce County has come together to try to start figuring out what we can do to keep ourselves and our communities safe, housed, fed and living with dignity. We are called Tacoma Restaurant Workers United.
As restaurant workers, we believe that we’ll find the answers to our problems through organizing, building our own power and demanding that local, state, and federal politicians with the resources to help workers through the pandemic do so.
While the prospect of losing our incomes is scary (and a reality many are already living with), we don’t think fighting to keep restaurants open for indoor dining in the short term is the answer because it endangers ourselves and our communities. Organizing for stimulus money and unemployment benefits, PPE, healthcare that is free and not based on employment, and free and accessible testing is what will keep folks safe and allow us to weather this storm without worrying about how we’re going to pay our rent or put food on our tables.
We are posting this survey here because we want to hear from you and learn more about your experiences and what you think can be done to improve workers’ lives.
This survey can be totally anonymous if you wish, and if you do share your name or contact information with us we will not share it or your responses with anyone.
If you wish to learn more about our group and/or get involved in organizing with us, please include that in your survey response, message our page or email us at [email protected]

Why stronger labor unions would speed up America’s post-COVID recovery
"At the peak of the pandemic, jobs in low-wage occupations—many of which have chronically low rates of union membership, such as food services—disappeared at roughly eight times the rate at which high-wage jobs did. This inequity has especially ravaged communities of color."
Time to get organized, y'all 💪
finance.yahoo.com When unions are weak, income inequality skyrockets. That's why Congress should make it easier for workers to organize.
