New Law Alert for Employers/Employees:

As of January 1, 2023, a new bill in Washington state requires most job postings to include salary information and other details. The bill, signed by Governor Jay Inslee on March 30, mandates that all businesses with more than 15 employees must include a range of hourly wages or annual salaries, as well as benefit information, in their job listings. It is important to note that job applicants can still negotiate for higher salaries than the posted range and there are no guidelines on how wide the range must be.

New laws are coming into effect:

As of January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in Washington state is $15.74 per hour. However, workers who are 14 or 15 years old may be paid $12.32 per hour. Some cities, such as Seattle, have their own minimum wage laws. For example, Seattle's minimum wage for businesses that employ 501 or more people is $18.69 per hour. Tukwila and SeaTac have even higher minimum wages, with Tukwila's minimum wage starting in July 2023 at about $18.99 and SeaTac's minimum wage for 2023 at $19.06. It is worth noting that the minimum wage has increased significantly since the "Fight for 15" movement began in 2014, which included rallies, protests, and strikes.
