We are so very thankful to have been part of downtown Tacoma in this location for the last 7 years. We're so thankful we get to be a part of your life, your home, and your memories. We are so very lucky and thankful you are each a part of our past, our present and our future.

The last month, with a loss in our family, has brought just how much the connections we make and nurture really mean into sharp focus.

More then even before we thank you so sincerely for allowing US to do what we do.

Hahaha and Happy Friday! Here's a peek at some new Characters Love Tacoma pieces for you. We are gearing up for Tacoma Is For Lovers next weekend at King's Books bringing some of these and so many other fun hand crafted pieces.

I've also started filling a new tree full of vintage ornaments and stockings for you today. Added more Christmas knick knacks and boxed ornaments this afternoon and I'm prepping a big stack of Christmas sweaters and sweatshirts for you that are $10 each. Super deals to be found in this fun stack.

We are open today until 3 and then back from 4-6. Dan is working in store tomorrow from 12-5 and you get Summer on Sunday 12-5

This will be a good year to shop US a couple of times over the season for the freshest finds as we will keep adding new chunks of great stuff each week.

When we said we would be open Wednesday with a whole new store reset you read that as Thursday right? Because my very overly ambitious plan to start with kept getting another and another “I can do this real quick too” addition… in addition to hundreds of ornaments hung, trees assembled, fresh vignettes created, dozens of new art pieces hung, we’re also installing new clothing racks. We are setting up the store to give you a wonderful new shopping experience this holiday season.

Thanks for one more day of your patience. Here are a couple more peeks of our progress so far.

It’s beginning to look a little like Christmas in here today. The little window is almost done and so cozy and warm and sparking. The big window is getting our slat ornament tree right now. I’m filling the little trees with our signature ornaments of the year. The first fresh vignette has a local finds focus with just a touch of Holiday spirit.

The plan is to re-open Wednesday to welcome you in to the holiday season here at Urban Squirrel.

We are in maker mode over here!
Currently on the drying rack: a new celebrity series of Characters Love Tacoma. There are some good laughs in this stack and I have more in process to share with you soon.

We are powering up for our reset this week, Tacoma Is For Lovers the 19th and all your Holiday shopping needs this season and giving ourselves a good chuckle when ever we can along the way.

We are so lucky to be a part of the Tacoma community and love getting to be a pick up spot for you for this treasured local paper. If you haven't yet- sign up for their email at the Volcano for even more news and happening updates.

New pieces are filling the US section and getting ready for our Sunday appearance at Tacoma Is For Lovers. These pieces are fun alone and make a great collection on your wall too. Each is a vintage tool full of as found patina. The tool is on a reclaimed stained piece of wood with a slightly distressed finish. We are in stire 12-5 Friday to Sunday this week. Our 25% off select items is running through Sunday and our goal is to have Christmas in store for you next week!

We wanted to reach out to let you know we will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday. We took an assessment of how behind we are and how much we need to get done and we are needing tomorrow as a catch up on our life day and continue to work through the death of our loved one day. Death creates such a big to do list.

We are moving forward with our plan to reopen this Saturday and Sunday 12-5 both days. Come sink your teeth into a little more Halloween fun because there is no such thing as too much fun…. Thank you for your patience during this time.

There are the two of us that make up the day in and day out team at Urban Squirrel. You mostly see me, Summer. Less often but working just as hard, you see Daniel.

But it's never just been the two of us. We've been able to do what we do because of the support, love, and help of others. One of the people that has helped us the most, believed in us the most, cheered for us the most, and has been the proudest of us was Daniel's Dad, Dan.

He did so much for US. Countless trips of great stuff pick ups to dump runs with us in his truck. He helped us load, unload, store and move more times than I could ever count. He put together shelves, cut wood, cleaned up, stored stuff for us, created things with us, problem solved, laid floors, built walls, spread the word about us and beamed with pride when he talked about our business. He was behind the scenes but he was always a part of what we did, who we are, and helped make everything we are possible.

Today after a 7 day fight for his life we said goodbye. Our hearts are devastated and our memories so filled with his acts of love and support over the years. He was always a part of our team and his loss will be very felt.

We will be closed Thursday and Friday to spend time as a family. We are hoping to open again Saturday and Sunday but appreciate your grace during this time of transition for all of us as we make the adjustments we need to daily.

Hold your loved ones as close as you can as long as you can. Thank you for your continued support .

And Dad, thanks for all the ways you made sure we made it this far. You will always be a part of US.

We will be closed for the next few days.

We are going to ask you for your patience and grace this week. We have a family member in critical condition. Our hours this week may be sporadic. While we will do our best to be in two places at once our leading priority will be family time. Thank you for your understanding.

New storyboards made it up on the wall today. Sorry if we missed you late afternoon today. We have a family emergency we are needing to be flexible for. We appreciate your grace during this difficult time.

We will be closed Thursday 10-19.

One of our parents will be in surgery tomorrow morning and we will be spending time together for the day and I'm going to spend the evening catching up in Maker Mode creating for you.

3 of our four parents are dealing with some health stuff. Send them some love and healing mojo let your people know how much you love them every chance you get.
