Seabury School
Seabury School challenges gifted children in a community that cherishes each individual and fosters
Founded in 1989, Seabury is the only independent school in the South Puget Sound with a program specifically designed for intellectually advanced children. Children from Tacoma, Federal Way, Kent, Auburn, Gig Harbor, Puyallup and throughout the South Puget Sound region come to Seabury for its personalized approach to education and emphasis on the development of creative and analytical thinking ski
At the beginning of every school year, our middle school students had to camp to work on their connections in collaboration for the year ahead. Experiences like these allow for building stronger peer relationships between students and a strong classroom community with their teachers.
Today we celebrated International Dot Day with our first All School Gathering. This is by far one of the most favorite events we celebrate at Seabury and today was no exception. We cherish the creativity our students have!
Our middle school students participated in transit day on Wednesday this week. This is a day where our students divide into groups and plan their own trips, including where to stop, where to eat lunch and how to get there. This field study helps our students get acquainted with using public transportation and builds agency and flexibility.
Even though our middle school students have moved into the Browns Point Campus, they continue to utilize Downtown Tacoma and the community as their classrooms. Here they are working up a sweat at the YMCA.
Yesterday our 1st-5th grade students headed down to the Browns Point Lighthouse for their first field study. This was a time for students to practice their observational skills and working across classes. We are pretty lucky to have this view just a few minutes from campus!
We are settling into the school year and our students are happy to be back learning!
We had an awesome Back-To-School BBQ at our Browns Point Campus with our Head of School, Mr. Scotlan, as grill captain. We know this year will be a great one! Thank you to all the families that came out to connect and see your classrooms!
While a lot of schools are having their first days this week, we still have another week until we welcome ALL of our students back to the Browns Point Campus. Our middle school students will be welcomed to the Browns Point Campus (formerly the Lower School) and will continue their studies in the Tacoma area community. We are so thrilled to have all of our students together this year! See you soon Seabury!
It’s a family affair! Gratitude for all the hard work the staff is doing this week and their families are even jumping in to help!
Our staff is back in action! We are spending the week collaborating, learning, and helping get school ready for our students. We can’t wait to see you all soon!
Seabury is still enrolling for this upcoming school year! If you are curious about how Seabury could benefit your child, check out our website and contact our admissions

Could you make your own shelter and survive if you were lost in the wild? Our Survive in the Wild campers spent the week learning to do just that. They learned how to create improvised shelters, knot tying, and using a map. They finished out their week navigating through the Dash Point Orienteering course.
Global Myths and Legends camp was jam packed with learning about different cultures and their stories as well as participating in hands-on activities that helped deepen and celebrate the learning. Campers heard legends from the Middle East, India, Africa, Brazil, Thailand and Polynesia; Myths from the Greeks and Haida and Maori people. They learned the significance of storytelling for different places and also the importance of masks, art, instruments, celebrations, and food and how those contributed and enhanced stories and storytelling.
Quite the trip around the world in 5 days!
Campers in our third week of summer camps are on the move! They are traveling the world learning about cultural myths and legends while another group is exploring the enchanted forest.
We still have spots open for this coming school year! Come take a tour, learn more about a Seabury-style education and see if Seabury School is right for your family!
A day full of water and sand! Our campers sent their STEAM raft creations down the creek and had a lot of fun creating and digging art in the sand.
Meanwhile in “Over in the Ocean” our younger friends have been learning all about the sea and the creatures who inhabit it.
A great camp day centered around sticks! Our “Art in Nature” campers worked to create their own Journey Sticks and did a STEAM raft building challenge that they will test out tomorrow on their field trip to the beach!
First day of “Art in Nature” camp and our campers are out collecting and creating! 🌸🏕️
While our older kid camp travels the world, our 4 to 6-year-olds have been engineering and building all day! 🔨🏗️
Friends in our “Around the World in 80 days” camp, visited China and Spain today, here they are amidst chopstick races🥢🌍
It’s our first day of Summer@Seabury! We still have a few classes with openings, you can check them out here: https://www.seabury.org/summerseabury24/
"Our son was always sweet, quiet, and bright. He did things on his own timeline and on his own terms. When he started reading words at age 3 and complete sentences at age 4, we knew he needed more. He was the youngest in his class at traditional pre-K program and was moved up to Kindergarten with no hesitation. A couple months into kindergarten we started hearing that he had trouble staying in his seat, focusing, and making transitions from one activity to the next. Many months and dozens of assessments later, we found there was little our small, private school could do for him and that he'd qualify for even less at our neighborhood public school. We'd heard about Seabury and decided to apply, not knowing if he was gifted. Within weeks heard those words for the first time, and they've been true every day since. Our son has gone from feeling like a bad kid who didn't belong to a great kid who is proud of himself and comes home happy and fulfilled at the end of each day. As parents we've found a community of teachers and administrators who see his capability over his lack of conformity, and who are able to challenge and engage him in ways that give him confidence and a strong sense of belonging. He's a different kid in the best ways imaginable."

Just a bonus to an already awesome summer program!
Looking for creative ways to fill your summer days? How about Oreo sculptures! Students did these on their last day of art class, a fun and edible activity!
Today is our new head of school's first day! We are so excited to have Rob Scotlan as our new leader at Seabury. We can't wait to see the enthusiasm and bright ideas he brings to our school!

Do you have a Seabury kid?
Seabury kids are inquisitive, thirsty for knowledge, quick learners, imaginative creators, good friends, quirky, intelligent, and love to learn. Seabury kids don’t want to sit at a desk all day, they want to be engaged and learning through projects, field studies, and hands-on activities. This is a gifted program that isn’t “more work” but instead deeper work.
If it sounds like someone you know or a program you’d like to know more about, take a look at our admissions! We are still accepting applications for 24/25 school year.
