JOY is a major theme in the Bible. All throughout God's big story he has taught his family what joy is and where it can (and can't) be found. This week we will be looking at the theme of joy and the promise that Jesus' coming brings "good news of great joy for all the nations." Learn more about biblical JOY by clicking on Advent in the NCC App or ncctacoma.org/advent a then click on Week 4.

In English, you can love your mom and love pizza...sooooo what does the Bible mean when it uses the word love? We learn the definition of love by looking at the life of Jesus, who told us that all of God's law hangs on love for him and love for others. Jesus lived out the definition of love, and as we learn to be with him, be like him, and do what he did, we learn to live out that definition as well! Learn more about the Bible's definition of love by clicking on Advent in the NCC App or ncctacoma.org/advent a then click on Week 3.

Week 2 of Advent focuses on PEACE. In the bible, the words used for "peace" are full of rich meaning. They don't just speak of an absence of conflict, but rather a sense of completeness and wholeness in all of life that comes from our Creator and Sustainer. Peace isn't something we can will ourselves into a state of. In fact, we are helpless to bring peace to ourselves...yet, as we learned last week, there is hope! Jesus himself is our peace! He takes what was broken and makes it whole, and he will bring all of creation into a state of wholeness when he comes again in glory! We wait longingly for that day, but even today he is at work in us and through us. May the LORD bless you...and give you PEACE. Learn more about the riches of God's peace by clicking Advent on the NCC App or at ncctacoma.org/advent

This week, Andy Cooley taught through John 14:10-24 in our series "The Upper Room". As we continue through this final evening of Jesus with his disciples, we find a scene where Jesus is actively taking them from just being just "followers" to being restored as "family." This evening is full of the language of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and in this part of the conversation, Jesus speaks of our hearts and actions being changed as we find ourselves "in him". Watch or listen on the NCC App or at ncctacoma.org

This week we see the love of Jesus on display as we move ever closer to Jesus' willing sacrifice of his life. "Right now you cannot follow me" he tells his disciples. Follow him where? Into the darkness of death...a darkness that would soon be overcome to bring about eternal light. Jesus was in the process of making a way, not only for his disciples, but for all humankind, to follow him into a restored relationship with the Father. This week kicks off our new series: The Upper Room - Words of Life from Jesus. This series will take us through the last meal Jesus had with his disciples and his farewell discourse to them. The depth of teaching, significance, and love that is displayed in this scene is magnificent. In part one, we see Jesus show what it means to be a part of, and to lead in, his kingdom, as he stoops to the lowest place of indignity to serve his friends by washing their feet. Watch or listen on the NCC App or ncctacoma.org

What does this stat about the Mariners playoff chances have to do with the Psalms? Andy Johnson used it to help us see how our emotions can be captivated once we have proper context for information. Psalm 107 is a beautifully structured song that can give real context to our lives and language to our emotions. Watch or listen at ncctacoma.org or the NCC App.

This past Sunday Andy Cooley taught from Psalm 90, a psalm of trust in the Lord and contentment in his ways. What does it mean to find true contentment in life? How is true and lasting happiness achieved? The Bible, and this song in particular, have a lot to say in regards to these questions. Listen on the NCC App or at ncctacoma.org

As we continue to see in the Psalms, we are learning language for our souls. As human beings we are in a constant conversation with ourselves, and what we say to ourselves about God will shape the way we respond to things. In Psalm 27 David starts with good theology and ends with good theology, and instead of running from troubles, he calls out for the presence of his good Father in the midst of his troubles, not denying them, but embracing God in the midst of them. Last week a group of 65+ students and leaders from NCC joined with from our region for our annual youth camp! God moved in some really powerful ways! We love to see students set free, be healed, hear from Gods Word, experience God’s presence, ask lots of questions, worship together, laugh, pray, and build community with one another.

“It is blessed to eat into the very soul of the Bible until, at last, you come to talk in Scriptural language, and your very style is fashioned upon Scripture models, and what is better still, your spirit is flavored with the words of the Lord.” - CHARLES SPURGEON

As we look into the Psalms we find language for our souls. The language of God's word, which speaks to the depths of who we are and gives us words to speak back to our Father. Psalm 51 is full of language of repentance and longing to be with God and to be full of his Spirit. Listen or watch on the NCC App or at ncctacoma.org

You can also read along with our Psalms Bible reading plan on the NCC App under the Bible tab at the bottom, then click "Plan".

Yesterday we had an amazing time of honoring, sending and saying our goodbyes to the Rabago family.

They have faithfully served our church and our city for years, and we will miss them dearly! We’re also so excited to see how God uses them to bless the city of Carlsbad, California with

Commonwealth Church is a church plant that is part of our family of churches, Confluence. It’s so exciting to be a part of a global family of churches that is together on mission. So this isn’t an ending point but a sending point and we get to partner alongside them as they pioneer in Southern California!
Bless you Ignacio, Esther, Justus, Rock, and Rosa!

We started a new series this morning in the book of Psalms, but if you missed the end of our last series check it out on the app!

So many questions and so much speculation surrounds the return of Jesus. One thing we know for sure (spoiler alert): we are currently in the "end times". In fact, Jesus set us up to be an "end times" people who are awaiting the fullness of his return. And rather than looking to escape to some place in the sky, the Bible says that we are those awaiting the coming of a new heaven, a new earth, and the restoration of all things. We really believe that. Check out the final teaching in our series at ncctacoma.org or the NCC App.
