Local officials turn out for ground breaking of Northeast Park in Leon County 10/19/2024

I’m still buzzing about this!

I can’t wait to see this park come to life with smiling kids and happy families.

Local officials turn out for ground breaking of Northeast Park in Leon County

Photos from Commissioner Brian Welch's post 10/16/2024

Today was a monumental day for NE Leon County.

This morning, my colleagues from the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency and I, broke ground on the long-awaited NE Park.

The park will have 2 baseball/softball fields, a full sized football/soccer field, 4 pickleball courts, 2 sand volleyball courts, a playground, walking trails and all the characteristics of a magnificent community amenity.

The residents of the Northeast have waited on this park for over 20 years and I’m proud to say that today, we will start construction 10 years ahead of schedule.

We made the park a priority upon our election in 2020 and through a lot of hard work from a lot of people, and the support of our community, today we began the journey toward completion in 2026.

I want to thank my colleagues on the Leon County Commission and the City Commission for helping bring us to this point.

I especially want to thank County Administrator Vince Long for helping me shepherd this park through a lengthy and complicated process to accelerated completion.

Today, I am beaming with pride for District 4 and all of our friends, neighbors, businesses and families.

In 2 years, we will cut a ribbon and play ball!

10/14/2024

We are heartbroken by the recent tragedy on Miccosukee Road and send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the affected families.

We will do everything possible to improve the safety of the intersection, including a warrant study to determine if a stoplight is needed.

Please use caution if traveling through this area.

Thank you.

3rd stop of Dad/Carter day was at the Celebration Baptist Car Show

What an awesome event. There must have been 300 cars/trucks on site. I like the older trucks, Broncos and Jeeps myself more than the fast cars, but they had plenty of all kinds.

Today was a Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce kind of day. I hope you all got out and enjoyed it.

Second stop of the day at the grand opening of the new Tesla dealership on West Tennessee Street.

Along with Tesla, we will be getting a new Lexus dealership soon in addition to the recently opened Jaguar Land Rover Tallahassee.

These are great signs of our growing economy.

Shout out to DJ DEMP out here keeping it lively.

Also free snocones for the kids!

Carter and I took a launch in the Models S Plaid. 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds. Amazing!

Video in comments!

First stop of the day:

Carter and I had a great time at the annual Leon County Volunteer Fire Truck Round-Up.

We are very proud of and do everything we can to support our Bradfordville Fire & Rescue and our Miccosukee Volunteer Fire Rescue departments.

Get outside! It’s perfect!

I am excited to share that the much anticipated Northeast Park groundbreaking will take place next week, on October 16 at 11:30 AM.

As you may know, the park wasn’t scheduled to begin construction until 2035, however, with your help, we were able to fast track its start to the beginning of next week.

It brings much needed active park space to Northeast Leon County and will serve families here for generations to come.

Thank you for your support as we made the NE Park a priority and advanced its construction by 10 years.

I’m grateful for your trust.

I am very proud to have Amazon in District 4.

They represent the largest private sector economic development in the history of Leon County and have delivered on their promise to create thousands of good jobs, with excellent benefits for people all over our community.

This is how economic development can create real opportunities for people to rise up and attain prosperity.
