Tornado Victims - How to appeal FEMA decision
After FEMA has reviewed an application, results of inspection and documentation received, they will send a letter explaining if you were approved for assistance, how much assistance will be received and how the assistance must be used.
If turned down, you have 60 days from the date on the decision letter to complete and submit an appeal form. There are several ways to appeal:
• Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
• In person at a Disaster Recovery Center
• By mail or by fax
Extra documents and when to expect a decision
As part of an appeal, residents may need extra documents. They will vary on the type of appeal filed. If you’re looking to apply for extra assistance, you will need to submit bills, receipts or repair estimates.
For any questions, applicants are recommended to call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. All appeals will be reviewed and decisions can be made as early as 30 days within receiving the appeal, or as late as 90 days

Today I met with FEMA representatives to discuss their latest efforts to help those affected by the devastating storm and tornadoes of May 10th. Both homeowners and renters in Leon County who were affected may apply for FEMA disaster assistance.
If you experienced damage to your property, lost refrigerated food due to an extended power outage, required temporary housing, or incurred other financial losses not covered by insurance, please consider applying for reimbursement of these recovery expenses.
There are several ways to apply:
• Go online to DisasterAssistance.gov
• Use the FEMA App
• Call 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET daily
Multilingual operators are available. If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
When you apply for assistance, please have the following information ready:
• A current phone number where you can be contacted
• Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying
• Your Social Security number
• A general list of damage and losses
• Banking information if you choose direct deposit
• If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name
If you have homeowners, renters or flood insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible.
FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If your policy does not cover all your disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance.
For an accessible video on how to apply for assistance, visit FEMA's YouTube page. For the latest information about Florida’s recovery, visit FEMA.gov/Disaster/4794. Follow FEMA on X, formerly known as Twitter, at X.com/FEMARegion4 or on Facebook at Facebook.com/FEMA.
FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers and Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams in Leon County
FEMA encourages all disaster assistance applicants to begin their applications online or by telephone. However, to assist when technical, face-to-face assistance is needed, County Emergency Management has been coordinating with FEMA to identify and reserve County facility space for use as FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs).
Below you will find a list of DRC locations.
Residents can visit the Disaster Recovery Center at the Leon County LeRoy Collins Main Library, 200 W. Park Ave., to get help with an application for federal assistance.
The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The center will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day. No appointment is necessary. All services provided are free.
FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers will also be available on a rotational schedule at three locations. Each location will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
• Woodville Community Center, 8000 Old Woodville Road: Open from Monday, July 1 through Friday, July 5 (closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday).
• Apalachee Regional Park Operations Building, 7550 Apalachee Parkway: Open from Sunday, July 7 through Sunday, July 14.

Sunday Sept 25, Evening Edition:
The satellite presentation of IAN is still not impressive. Lots of clouds, not really distinct - at least not really distinct like many tropical systems usually become... especially over very warm water.
Looking at the 5pm data, the winds are down from 50 to 45mph and the internal pressure is up from 1001 to 1003mb. Is that significant? Eh, maybe. It tells me there's something working against IAN. Probably some drier air. Also, the motion is def more N than W over the past 6hrs. Is THAT signingicant? Eh, maybe. IF I see this trend continue for the next 6 or 12 hours, then I'll be a LOT more comfortable saying the EURO is doing a better job with IAN and I'll start leaning toward the more EASTERN solution. Please read that again.
IF THIS TREND CONTINUES FOR ANOTHER 6 OR 12 HOURS.
These systems very commonly "jog" to one direction or another, based on how the other environmental factors work. So we shouldn't get too excited about any particular 6-hr shift. But it can be part of a longer motion that can help remove some of the uncertainty.
Dry air working on IAN already can be a good thing - can really stunt its possible strengthening. Also why when you see things like "Rapid Intensification Possible..." we need to step back and see if indeed it happens. Yesterday, it looked like the struggling core of IAN was emerging from the wind shear that was hamerping it and then over the warm waters the thinking was for strengthening. Well, it's been 24hrs and not so much. Hello dry air. And I, for one, hope this dry air lingers for a while to give IAN a fight. Tomorrow, I'll spend more time talking about the dry air that should be dropping SOUTH toward the Gulf from the US, and why that should be a player by Wednesday/Thursday too.
Anyway, there's a little shift to the EAST with the NHC Cone as of 5pm. Let's see if this continues. I won't have an update at 11pm (I'll be sleeping, I hope). I'll have plenty of info in the morning. A bunch around 4-4:30am EDT and then I'll try to work the 5am info in as quickly as I can while doing the morning news. I'll also plan to do a FB LIVE CHAT around 11:15am EDT tomorrow, when I see tomorrow's 11am info.
Hang in there, my friends. We'll know more soon.
Thanks for reading this and feel free to share it.
Have a nice night =)

We will continue to monitor tropical storm forecasts which could impact our region toward the end of next week. Please take steps to review your home emergency plans and supplies.
People will notice the change in your attitude towards them, but won't notice their behavior that made you change.
