When I worked for the Sheriff's Office, deputies were expected to handle such dangers immediately. It’s crucial that we address these issues promptly to ensure our community’s safety.

I am deeply concerned and saddened by the recent act of violence against former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. Such acts are unacceptable and strike at the heart of our democratic process, which relies on respect and civility.

Hey Dixie County!

What an amazing day at the Independence Day Parade in Suwannee! It was great to see so many friendly faces celebrating together. The decorated carts and side-by-sides were just fantastic, all decked out in red, white, and blue.

One of the best parts was seeing all the children lined up along the road, eagerly waiting for their candy. Their smiles and excitement truly made the day special.

I loved meeting so many of you and feeling your strong support. Your enthusiasm really shows how wonderful our community is.

As we celebrate the 4th of July, let's remember what makes our community strong—honesty, openness, and looking out for each other. These are the values that guide my campaign and my vision for a safer and more connected Dixie County.

Today, I had the heartfelt privilege of volunteering at our local nursing home, a place that has been deeply significant to my family and me for the past four years. As many of you know, this is a bittersweet experience for me, given the recent passing of my father. The care and compassion the staff and residents showed him during his time there were truly remarkable, and I wanted to take a moment to give back to this wonderful community.

The nursing home has always felt like an extension of my family. The friendships I’ve formed with both the residents and staff are invaluable, and it warms my heart to continue these visits. While today's visit wasn't about my campaign, it was a beautiful reminder of the importance of community and the bonds we share.

I am continually inspired by the resilience and spirit of the residents. Spending time with my old friends and making new ones reaffirms my commitment to serving our community with integrity and dedication. This nursing home holds a special place in my heart, not just because of the care they provided to my father, but also because of the sense of family and community they nurture every day.

Thank you to everyone at the nursing home for your unwavering support and kindness. Your dedication to the well-being of our loved ones does not go unnoticed. I am grateful for the opportunity to spend time with you all and look forward to many more visits.

As you all know, I spend a lot of time engaging with voters across our community. Today, I want to share an enlightening moment that emphasizes the importance of setting an example in leadership, which is a key part of my campaign for Sheriff.

During one of my recent conversations, a voter mentioned their frustration at a candidates' forum. "Julie," they said, "every candidate was told there was a five-minute limit for their speeches, but the current Sheriff went on for nearly fifteen minutes. It felt like he believed the rules didn’t apply to him. This lack of respect for guidelines reflects broader issues in our Sheriff's Office, where several deputies have been fired or suspended for similar disregard of rules. Leadership starts at the top and filters down. It comes down to following the rules and respecting others."

This observation really hit home. Leadership does start at the top. It’s about setting an example of integrity and respect for all rules, no matter how small. When leaders fail to follow rules, it sets a precedent that can trickle down through the ranks, fostering a culture of disregard and inconsistency.

As your Sheriff, I pledge to lead by example. My administration will prioritize following rules and regulations, ensuring that every member of the Sheriff's Office understands the importance of accountability and respect for the law. This approach is not just about maintaining order within our ranks but about building trust with you, the community we serve.

We will have regular training on ethics and rule-following, create a transparent system for reporting violations, and foster a culture where every officer understands their accountability to the community.

This commitment to integrity is more than a campaign promise; it's who I am. By maintaining strict adherence to rules and fostering accountability, we can ensure our Sheriff's Office is trusted and respected by all residents of Dixie County.

Dear Dixie County Community,

I am Julie Herring, and I wanted to share with you why I am running for Sheriff of our beloved Dixie County. My decision comes from a deep-rooted commitment to our community and a desire to see it thrive in safety, unity, and transparency.

First and foremost, let me address some recent rumors. Contrary to what some may say, I have no plans to overhaul our current law enforcement personnel or the budget drastically. These are distractions from the real issues at hand. My focus remains on enhancing what we have and making necessary improvements to ensure we are all safe and well-served.

With 33 years of proven experience in law enforcement, I bring a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience in various areas, including dispatch, corrections, administration, and active investigations. My career has been dedicated to serving Dixie County with integrity and professionalism.

What I Stand For:
Open Door Policy: I will remove the barriers between the Sheriff’s Office and YOU, the people. My office will be open during the noon hour to accommodate the working community, ensuring you can handle your business without disruption.

Community Engagement: I believe in the power of community. I will foster better communication between the department and the public, rebuilding trust and loyalty. Together, we can create a safer and more connected Dixie County.

Drug Problem Combat: With over 20 years in the Drug Unit, I understand the persistence required to tackle drug-related issues. My strategy includes consistent efforts to reduce drug crimes, which will, in turn, decrease other related crimes such as burglaries.

Accountability and Professionalism: Law enforcement should operate with the highest standards of honesty, fairness, and accountability. I pledge to bring professionalism and clear communication to every aspect of our work.

Constitutional Sheriff Principles: I firmly believe in upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights of our citizens. As your Sheriff, I will ensure that our department respects and defends your constitutional rights while maintaining law and order. This includes the right to due process, the right to privacy, and the protection of your freedoms as guaranteed by our Constitution.

A Little About Me:
I have lived in Dixie County my entire life, following the footsteps of my father and grandfather. My parents, the late Tom Herring and Barbara Herring, instilled in me the values of hard work and dedication to our community. My father, who recently passed away, was a pillar in our community, and I strive to continue his legacy of service and commitment. My brothers, Tim and Jamie, continue to live and work here, contributing to the community just as my father did.

Family is everything to me. My daughter Brooke, who lives in Trenton, and my two grandsons, Carson and C**t, bring immense joy to my life. Carson, 15, is an outdoor enthusiast attending Dixie County High School, while C**t, 5, loves swimming, biking, and playing with his trucks at Old Town Elementary.

I graduated from Dixie County High School in 1980 and began working for my aunt at 16. After various roles, including bookkeeping and insurance, I joined the Dixie County Sheriff's Office in 1987 under Sheriff Glen Dyals. My passion for law enforcement grew, and I dedicated my career to serving our community until my retirement in 2017.

Even after retirement, my love for law enforcement brought me back as a Civil Process Officer until 2021. In 2024, I left my position at the Dixie County Building and Zoning Department to run for Sheriff, driven by my commitment to public service and the well-being of Dixie County.

These rumors are completely false and do not reflect my values or plans for our community.

It's disheartening to see such rumors being spread, especially when they undermine the integrity of our democratic process. We must ask ourselves why someone would resort to spreading false information. The answer often lies in fear and a lack of genuine solutions. As your candidate, I promise to maintain transparency and honesty throughout my campaign. My commitment is to run a good, clean race focused on integrity and community safety.
