Tallahassee Writers Association
Tallahassee Writers Association supports the literary arts by offering professional and novice writers education, connection, and encouragement.
Our monthly meeting is this Thursday, June 13 at 6:30 pm at the Marzuq Shrine Temple with guest speaker Mayor John R. Marks III.
John Marks is the longest-serving mayor in the history of Tallahassee, serving from February 2003 through November 2014. A successful and accomplished attorney and public servant, Mayor Marks is the great-grandson of Oliver Lewis Coleman, who founded Coleman College in Gibsland, Louisiana in 1887. Join us as Mayor Marks discusses his research and process of developing a documentary film and historical novel about this extraordinary educational pioneer.
This event is free and open to the public. If you want to attend via Zoom and don't have the link, email [email protected] before 5 pm Thursday.

The 2023 Seven Hills Literary Contest and Penumbra Poetry & Haiku Contest (“the Contest”) is open for entries! We have decided to open the contest to non-members, but members enjoy a $10 discount on each entry. If you aren’t already a member of Tallahassee Writers Association, you can sign up at https://twaonline.org/membership/purchase.
One change from previous years is that the Contest will focus on just a few genres, rotating each year. This year, the categories are Short Stories, Poetry, and Haiku. The entry fees are low (especially during the early-bird phase, now through August 31), and the prizes are attractive!
