Leg pain could be a wake-up call for your cardiovascular health!
Everyone gets a charley horse now and again while walking. But what if you experience a painful cramping sensation more often than normal, or even every time you walk? Claudication - the medical term for leg pain while walking - is a common symptom of peripheral artery disease (PAD), an often undetected and sometimes dangerous condition, according to the Harvard Heart Letter.
PAD occurs when fatty deposits narrow and clog arteries outside of the heart, most often in the legs. While some people have mild or no symptoms, cramping in the arms or legs that starts during physical activity and disappears after a few minutes of rest occurs in some PAD patients, according to the Mayo Clinic. Pain may also occur in the buttock, hip, thigh or calf, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Other symptoms of peripheral artery disease include:
-Muscle weakness
-Hair loss
-Smooth, shiny skin
-Skin that is cool to the touch, especially if it occurs with pain while walking that subsides after stopping
-Decreased or absent pulses in the feet
-Persistent sores in the legs or feet
-Cold or numb toes
Peripheral artery disease is often a sign of fatty deposits in other areas of the body, which can reduce blood flow to the heart and brain, according to the Mayo Clinic. Contact your physician if you're experiencing these symptoms and over age 65; over age 50 and have a history of diabetes or smoking; or under age 50, but have diabetes and other risk factors like obesity or high blood pressure.
According to the CDC, a doctor may use a variety of tests and imaging techniques to diagnose this issue. Treatment may include aspirin or other antiplatelet medications, as well as lifestyle changes like to***co cessation and exercise.

It may not be arthritis: Baker's cyst can cause severe knee pain!
Out of nowhere, it might seem, your knee hurts. In fact, it hurts so badly that you can't bend it or straighten it out. You get a cane. You wonder what is happening.
It could be a Baker's cyst, or popliteal cyst, which can cause knee pain, swelling in your leg and behind your knee and stiffness, which causes pain when the knee is bent. It can even prevent you from bending your knee altogether.
These cysts are created when the fluid that lubricates the knee joint builds up and the fluid moves to the back of the knee. This can happen from arthritis, injury or gout.
While some Baker's cysts go away on their own, others linger, causing pain and discomfort.
There are treatments for these cysts. Steroids can help decrease inflammation. A doctor can also drain the cyst. But if the cyst is causing severe pain, surgery to remove the cyst is sometimes recommended.
See a doctor immediately if the leg turns red or darker and starts to swell. Cysts can burst, leaking fluid into the leg.

Arthritis of the knee: PRP injections may help!!!
Suddenly, your knees hurt. Getting up from a chair becomes an ordeal. Walking into the kitchen seems like an endurance test. Swelling. Stiffness. Pain.
That's arthritis.
About 30 million people have knee arthritis caused by simple aging.
The cartilage in the three knee bones begins to thin and wear away and in late stages the bones rub together causing pain. This causes pain, stiffness, and swelling.
Although there is no cure, a relatively new technique is thought to be effective and safe for osteoarthritis of the knee joint. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections use your own blood to create a concentrate of platelets which are injected into the knee. The process can be quick. As little as 15 minutes for each injection. Patients may need from three to six injections for maximum relief.
According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), PRP injections are safe and effective, especially for early stages of osteoarthritis of the knee.
Unfortunately, Medicare and major insurance companies do not cover PRP injections, which can cost from $500 to $2,000 per injection. The treatment is still considered experimental.
