Pic 1 & 2: Shows the harvesting of the Peroneus Brevis muscle belly from the lower leg for pedicle transfer, which allows for additional blood flow to the transfer site in this case the lateral calcaneus.

Then passing the muscle belly through a tunnel making sure that there is no restriction of movement of this muscle through this tunnel, as restriction could result in muscle necrosis and tissue death at the level of the lateral ankle.

Our patient, (a 60 year old male with type 1 diabetes but otherwise healthy) came to the ER with a smelly wound positive for infection (osteomyelitis) of calcaneus/heel bone.⠀
Requiring a combined procedure:
Rotational Muscle flap to cover Osseous defect of heel bone, secondary to trauma.

Mr. G is one of our patients who does not have insurance and the fee was extremely high for him to go to wound care for treatment.

Mr. G had been struggling with this wound for months and needed the help of Dr. Beckford who hastily went to work!⚒👩🏾⚕️✨

The wound tried fight back midway through the process- that’s when Dr. Beckford knew we needed a little more help to assist! ⚒ 🦾

We reached out to some of our colleagues to see about getting a skin graft for the patient but also made sure Mr. G was not going to have to pay a crazy amount!
With the help of our colleagues from Organogenesis, they donated a Puraply AM graft and their Rep Marcus came to the office to explain to the patient about the graft and what to expect with the graft and answer every question the patient had in detail.

This sped up the healing process after just 4 WEEKS of applying the graft. With the appropriate care and treatment, Mr. G’s wound is now healed!✨🎉
